Abortion issue
A decision-making process in nursing could involve many colleagues whose contributions are analyzed to arrive at a solution. The current issue in my healthcare facility is abortion. The MORAL model could be used to evaluate the issue by following the five components of the model.
Massaging the dilemma
This is the first stage of the MORAL model, whereby nurses should understand the various aspects about an issue. For example, a nurse needs to know why a patient would want to have an abortion. Upon reviewing the aspects, a nurse may want to know the current health status of the patient (Butts & Rich, 2012).
Outline the options
Here, the nurse may highlight the options available. The main reason for evaluating the options is to select the best alternative that could be used instead of abortion (Butts & Rich, 2012).
Resolve the dilemma
This stage involves resolving the dilemma associated with the issue. For example, abortion could lead to death and infertility in women. It would be essential to look at all the possible outcomes of abortion (Butts & Rich, 2012).
Act by applying the chosen option
During this stage, the nurse solves the issue using the selected option. The selected option should bring more benefits than harm to the patient. For instance, the patient might be advised to continue carrying the fetus (Butts & Rich, 2012).
Look back and evaluate
This is the last stage of the model, and it involves evaluating the outcomes of the chosen option. Evaluation of the option of the current issue would require assessing the progress of the pregnancy (Butts & Rich, 2012).
