The world of modern business is cruel indeed. Many business companies have huge expectations in regards to business students, and not all colleges and other special institutions are ready to provide young people with the required number of qualities and knowledge. Therefore, it seems to be important to identify the aspects that have to be improved in business education and comprehend what modern business companies hope to observe in business students.
The current memo is an attempt to analyze the demands and meet the needs. The evaluation of the work done in the world of business, it is expected that business colleges pay more attention to such aspects like business dress code, ethical principles and appropriate communication in interpersonal relations, and technological innovations.
There are many attempts to improve the world of business, create appropriate working conditions, and provide students with the required portion of knowledge. However, not all professors identify the current needs of business companies and continue relying on the past experience. The world is changing fast; the business world is changing even faster. Teachers should not only to explain why some changes can happen and what students should do. Teachers have to consider all those changes and improve the teaching methods accordingly.
The way of how young people should dress is one of the urgent problems for many business companies (McLean 49). There are certain norms that have to be followed. Nowadays, even the already established dressing norms have several “sub-norms”. There are business-casual and smart-casual styles, and students want to get the explanations of how to make the right choice and succeed in dressing. Even the writing courses should be focused on dressing students properly to avoid problems or inconveniences.
There are also certain behavioral norms to be mentioned. Though many colleges focus on the ethical background, it is stated that “unethical conduct has reached crisis proportions in business” (Floyd, Xu, Atkins, and Caldwell 753). Therefore, many business companies may expect teachers pay more attention to the ethical type of education and inform students how and why they should behave in particular situations.
Ethical education should not be about theory only (McLean 182). Business students have to know how to apply their ethical knowledge on practice. Many students do know a lot about ethics and its importance, still, they neglect the necessity to follow the rules and improve their working conditions accordingly. At the same time, students should not be “ethically blinded”. They are in need of the balance between rules, ethics, and real communication. And professors have to cover it during their classes.
Finally, certain attention has to be paid to a technological aspect of education (McLean 28). The majority of students know a lot about the current technologies and how to use them accordingly. Still, young people should understand that the business world is not about technologies only. They have to know when some technologies should be used to solve a problem or choose a suggestion and when some personal skills and knowledge are more important.
In general, employers want to have a number of professional workers as soon as they finish their education. However, they need to understand that a good worker may be created on their own. Professors can create a solid basis and provide students with the improved knowledge. Still, the way of how students are going to use their knowledge and what stimuli they get to demonstrate their best skills depend on employers and their abilities to explain the goals and opportunities of their companies.
