Easter is one of the most important and favorite holidays in my family. We begin to prepare for it a few weeks in advance – we decorate the house, plan traditional dishes, and buy small gifts for each other. Our family has a tradition associated with this holiday, which we practice from year to year – this is a family visit to the church. We make Easter bouquets from ribbons and fresh flowers, such as bells and white lilies – this is the main symbol of Easter for our family. We bring such bouquets to the church, give to neighbors, and decorate the house with them. This tradition is rooted in my grandparents’ family history, who once went to church on this holiday to humbly accept what the Lord sent them and thank for the peaceful sky above their heads. From that moment, our family cannot imagine an event more important and meaningful than going to church on Easter.
This tradition is being practiced for 51 year, and this year, we had to change it due to the situation with COVID-19. For the sake of our safety and the health of others, we celebrated this holiday at home with our big family. Nevertheless, every year, after visiting the church, we go home together and either discuss altogether or everyone thinks to themselves about the meaning of the resurrection of Christ. At home, we have a festive dinner, during which we thank the Lord for everything we are given. We then either play Easter games or have a calm conversation on the topics important for us. Going to the church on Easter and having a family gathering afterward is crucial for us because this is the day when we feel blessed, united, and thankful. It is important to share this sensitive moment with God and each other. This tradition will be passed from generation to generation to nourish the spirituality and make our family stronger.
