Numerous celebrities are claimed to have psychological issues from their actions. For instance, Kanye West is thought to have mental disorders for his exemplary behavior in public and tweets on social media. It looks like the rapper has manic-depressive psychosis – one of the forms of bipolar disorder, in which a person falls into a depressive state, then begins to get excited: the mood can change every hour. West’s messages on Twitter about the political system or his recent divorce from Kim Kardashian seem to have been posted when the star was indignant; later, his tweets were deleted. This is a major symptom of bipolar disorder: people act recklessly without recognizing the potential severity of the consequences. It means that West’s behavior is not just odd, and he proved it in the media, stating having some mental issues. Even though he is concerned with his psychological condition, the news about his outrageous conduct keeps popping up.

DSM-5 is the standardized manual for diagnosing a range of mental illnesses. The standardization of diagnoses allows for more efficient treatment choices, interventions, and professional guidance (Sue et al., 2016). Another major benefit is its help to diminish linguistic confusion – every remedy has been conceptualized internationally, which reduces the likelihood of misconception. Additionally, it establishes therapeutic guidance, implying that there are specific treatment schemas so that the professionals do not have to elaborate on them. On the other hand, the guide oversimplifies a person’s behavior and does not consider additional causes or symptoms (Sue et al., 2016). Moreover, there is a risk of stigmatization caused by misdiagnosis. Finally, over-diagnosis may be a major problem since it exposes one to labels and leads to wrong treatment results.
