Climate Change’s Impact on Ocean: Finding Solutions Essay

One of the many issues that require close attention from humans is the impact of climate change on the state of the global marine environment. Even though the ocean is the largest habitat on the planet and the system on which human survival directly depends, when discussing climate change, the impact that this change and the increase in carbon dioxide emissions have on the oceans is often overlooked. Oceans, which provide half of all oxygen on the planet, regulate the climate and temperature of the Earth, serve as a source of food and water for people, and are home to hundreds of thousands of different species, have long remained our best ally in the fight against climate change.

According to the diagram by Gattuso et al., the most successful and fast method of saving the ocean will be the protection of biota and ecosystems. This section includes four main activities: pollution reduction, protection, elimination of overexploitation, and hydrology restoration. In the diagram, these solutions have an equally high technological readiness, and the effect of these solutions will be permanent. When working on each of these areas, it will be possible not only to save the ocean from the current disruption of systems and destruction but also to prevent future problems that may eventually become catastrophes.

To save the ocean, it is necessary to take decisive measures for a long time. A person can affect every ecosystem and either ruin it or keep it. The ocean plays a significant role in climate regulation, in ensuring the life of aquatic inhabitants, as well as in ensuring food security in the world (Gattuso et al., 2018). It is necessary to implement various strategies as quickly as possible that will help protect the ocean, its inhabitants, and people. The ocean’s importance is enormous, and it’s time for people to protect the environment and not continue to pollute and destroy it.
