Introduction

Organisational understanding is the process through which one studies the structure of a company and how it functions at different levels. A firm is made up of various groups of people with specific skills who combine their expertise to achieve the set goals (Robbins and Judge 34). Some industries adopt effective organisation within them in order to ensure that the work to be done is well distributed. The distribution of different jobs to various persons within a business establishment brings about harmony and better performance outcomes (Robbins and Judge 98).People are able to do what they are good at and not just any work available within a company. An organisational structure supports the process of management, whereby people in charge can notice a shortcoming in one structure quicker as opposed to the whole company. Correcting a deficiency would also be easier, making a company run smoothly (Schermerhorn Jr, Hunt and Osborn 59). This paper analyses three companies in different industries, focusing on their organisational structure. It also comments on the working conditions in the industries. Finally, it puts forth recommendations to help the industries improve their working conditions. The three firms analysed are Coca-Cola Company, Nestle Limited , and Toyota Motors Limited.

The three industries and comments on working situations

Coca-Cola Limited is an American international beverage organisation that is based in Atlanta. The company deals with the wholesaling of soft drinks all over the world. Coca-Cola is the name of one of the best products of the business and the most popular, giving the company its brand name. It was established in 1888 in Columbus and since its establishment, there have been many more products coming up from the company, but the Coca-Cola drink remains the most common product. Some of the other products produced that have been produced by the firm include mineral water and other non-alcoholic beverages, such as Fanta. For efficient management of the company, several groups have been put in place to ensure that everybody works according to his or her specialty. According to my friend, who works in the distribution department, the business establishment, through proper organisation, has maintained high sales over the years. In the company, there are many organisational levels with different tasks, such as production, bottling, distribution, and sales. The production is done in the US and the syrup that is produced is distributed all over the world for bottling. When one goes to many countries across the world, word Coca-Cola is not a new one and some people even think the company is in the countries.

Unlike Coca-Cola Company, Toyota Company started in 1933 in Japan as a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, named after the founder. Toyoda had gone all the way to Europe and the US to find out how cars were being produced. The development of Toyoda’s Company in an automobile production was encouraged by the government of Japan due to demand for vehicles domestically. The government needed companies, such as this, so much because it could not depend on China, owing to the fighting that was going on between these two countries. Although Toyota is a very popular car manufacturer all over the world today, it is still in the textile business, making automatic looms and many other things, which are now developed as opposed to when the company was started.

Nestle Company is in the food and beverage industry and it is one of the largest food companies based on its revenue. It is based in Switzerland. Nestle has a broad range of products, including baby food, packed cereals, and hot beverages, among others. The firm has very many factories and it operates in about 200 countries worldwide. It was formed in 1886 when two Swiss companies came together to form it. The corporation grew very fast after the first ten years due to the quality of goods it was producing, making it very popular. Initially, the business specialised in baby products, but due to its massive expansion, it started to include a variety of products. In terms of functional management, a chair of the board of directors, which has 14 members, heads Nestle. Under the chair of the board, there are a chief executive officer and other officials. Members of the board of directors have well-assigned duties and responsibilities to carry within the company.

What is bad or good in each industry?

Coca-Cola Limited

After production and distribution of the syrup, bottlers in the different countries bottle the product, retaining the brand name of Coca-Cola. It is no wonder that in the soda bottles in various parts of the world are not written “produced by”, but they are written “Bottled by”, which is followed by the company name in that particular country. It is worth to note that different bottlers have an autonomy given by the parent company. Coca-Cola Company itself has a bottling company in North America, where some products are bottled. This brief discussion about the company might, to some extent, explains why it is so popular, despite some criticisms reading its products that are considered unhealthy by some nutritionists and other stakeholders in the health care sector (Schermerhorn Jr et al. 56). However, one of the worst things about working for the business establishment is that workers are forced to explain some health facts regarding products, yet they are not aware of scientific evidence.

Toyota

Just like any other company in the car manufacturing industry, Toyota has an organisational structure that helps it to manage workers well. The production of the different car parts, for example, is done by a separate department from the assembling section. This structural management contributes to increased, and this is what makes it more efficient in its production than many other competitors in the sector. Apart from this organisation, there is also an excellent management of leaders. In Toyota Company, operations are headed by a general manager, followed by two assistant managers down to team members. My friend works for Toyota Company and, according to him, and the structural organisation is paramount as it motivates workers to work harder in order to earn a promotion. People at the top of the ladder are also motivated to make sure that they do not lose their positions. In fact, they manage their juniors with the goal of achieving the best outcomes in the short-term and long-term. However, the firm does not have effective ways of motivating its workers.

Nestle

Regarding structural organisation, Nestle is not different from other companies, especially those that deal with food products. There are several departments within the business establishment, with people at each level and are grouped according to their professions and work experiences. Its excellent organisation of responsibilities has helped to create a culture that is aimed at attaining the best results. However, just like Toyota Motors, the management of the company does not have effective ways of promoting its staff.

Conclusion and/or recommendations to improve the companies

From the analysis of the companies above, it is clear that they are popular. Their popularity does not come on a silver platter, but through hard work and proper management approaches. However, it is worth to note that some of the companies could have done better if they could have some essential things. Coca-Cola, for example, while it might be seen as a good thing to give full autonomy to companies in different countries, this might not be the case. The taste of Coca-Cola bottled in North America, for example, is not the same as the same brand bottled in Asia. The different tastes are not received well, and consumers end up blaming the entire management team for ignorance. I think it would be wiser for the company to start branches in various countries, instead of sending the syrup from America for bottling. Nestle and Toyota, on the other hand, could improve their product quality by ensuring that their employees are satisfied.

Before employee satisfaction, they should ensure that the whole process of recruitment is done in a more effective manner. An employee is the most important part of any firm and, if he or she is treated well, then there would be a possibility of improved quality and sales of goods and services. Motivation of workers is also essential for any company to increase production levels. For example, if an employee does something good, he/she should be recognised and be a reward, which could be in many forms, such as money or a certificate. The management structure of a company also matters a lot regarding long-term and short-term goals. Nestle should ensure that people who hold important positions, such as customer relations managers, are persons who may do that particular job to perfection. The same applies to Toyota Motors Limited because it offers both goods and services to its wide clientele base.
