Communication barriers refer to obstacles that prevent effective communication from occurring. Poor communication can influence the workplace climate and lead to issues. Unclear instructions from supervisors, pointless meetings, and other stressors can worsen problems with widespread business impact (The Economist Intelligence Unit 2). There can be gaps in the economic stability of the organization, low commitment, and unfulfilled tasks and projects. Communication can be affected by style, miscommunication, and lack of accountability (The Economist Intelligence Unit 11). In addition, the language barrier is a severe miscommunication factor (Buarqoub 68). It is vital to maintain communication in organizations that perform medicine, commerce, and marketing services.

Effective communication in health care is the key to the successful functioning of a medical organization. Lack of communication channels and tools will lead to stagnation and increased losses in hospitals and clinics. Health care costs and adverse effects on patients will increase. Effective communication in health care settings has several components: health literacy, cultural competence, and language barriers (Ratna 2). Any one of these factors causes the organization to deteriorate, and it experiences a phase of stress.

Much of the downside of communication barriers in health care has to do with the miscommunication that occurs between patients and medical staff. Because not all staff training programs are the same, some nurses and even physicians cannot always find the right tactics to behave and communicate (Ratna 4). Researchers have noted that language barriers have become a frequent co-leader in communication barriers (Buarqoub 70). If either the patient or the health care provider does not clearly understand the information being conveyed, the delivery of care is compromised (Ratna 5). It causes the organization’s goals and costs for medical equipment and medications to increase because patients are not receiving complete treatment. It is recommended that techniques be used to analyze communication in the microenvironment and find practical tools to teach communication to address this problem.
