First Chapter
The book They and We by Pete Rose explores essential aspects of cultural interaction between different people in a society. In the first chapter, the author delves into the fundamental concepts of race, ethnicity, and sociological perspective (Rose, 2014). Thus, it allows us to consider essential concepts of American historical development of society that provide a basis for discussing several population cohorts, such as the natives, conquerors, colonists, and enslaved people. The chapter considers interethnic and historical connections between peoples and their interactions and conflicts (Meints et al., 2019). Substantial attention is also paid to the concepts of liberation of enslaved peoples and their history.
Second Chapter
The second chapter examines in more detail the concepts of immigrants who arrived in America from different countries. The author focuses on people of Asian origin who moved to America (Rose, 2014). In this way, it is possible to identify in detail the position occupied by different persons in society. The concepts discussed in this chapter touch on an essential regulatory document, the Chinese Exclusion Act (Rose, 2014). The explanation regarding this document is confirmed by the large flow of migrants, which the government initially opposed. Consequently, the second chapter focuses on how the resettlement process took place and what obstacles there were in the way of people.
Third Chapter
The third chapter is devoted to aspects related to Atlantic migrations. Cultural pluralism is a critical concept addressed in this chapter because American society has been made up of many nations that have entered the country throughout history (Rose, 2014). The melting pot that formed in the United States gave rise to the concept of the ‘leapfrog’ phenomenon, which is also discussed by the author (Heidenreich et al., 2022). It is a concept used in social and economic relations that applies to different cultures in competitive interactions.
