Thesis
Extremist groups, unlike Muslims, might know about Islam but lack the wisdom to use this knowledge correctly, which leads to terrorist attacks and violence. Previously, in critical writing assignments, it was claimed that Qoran could provide people with both wisdom and knowledge. According to Dr. Ramzi, ‘knowledge allows you to make a bomb, but wisdom prevents you from using it’ (The99 11:50) This statement from the critical writing assignment was used for forming the argument. People should understand that Islam teaches people to have both attributes. Nonetheless, extremist groups do not have enough wisdom to stop themselves from committing crimes.
Moreover, Dr. Razi states that ‘it is not always strength that prevails’ (The 99). In other words, adequate knowledge is a critical factor that can reduce the problem of extremist Islamic groups because it lasts for generations and provides answers to people’s questions. Quotes from interviews of 90 Muslim men will be utilized to showcase the fact that Muslim people do not share extremist views (Sandberg & Colvin). Thus, Muslim people, according to Islam, should have the wisdom to use their knowledge correctly.
An academic article that will be used
The scholarly article will be analyzed and used as a primary source for discussion. The article ‘‘ISIS is not Islam’: Epistemic Injustice, Everyday Religion, and Young Muslims’ Narrative Resistance’ was published in 2020 by The British Journal of Criminology. The leading author is Sandberg Sveinung, who has a Ph.D. in sociology and works as a professor of criminology at the University of Oslo. Dr. Sveinung has published books and scholarly articles on the topic of Islam in the past; thus, he has enough qualifications and knowledge for carrying out this research. Consequently, this article provides reliable information regarding the understanding of Islam.
Significance of the argument
It is crucial to eliminate the problem of Islamophobia in modern society. For instance, an extremist group can learn from Qoran and create a narrative that suits Islam and its personal goals. As a result, extremists justify their evil actions by religion and Qoran. This, in turn, leads to organizations, such as ISIS, which can organize terrorist attacks. Terrorist attacks exacerbate the problem of Islamophobia and create discriminatory attitudes towards Muslim people. Therefore, people suffer from discrimination because of the actions of specific groups. It is necessary to spread awareness on this topic to stop the unnecessary negative attitude towards Muslim people.
