Driving forces in any industry can be referred to as the major factors that lead to changes and competitiveness in the industry. An analysis of industry driving forces usually comprises of three stages namely identification of the driving forces, making an assessment to establish whether presence of the forces decreases or increases the attractiveness of the industry and determining the most appropriate strategies of initiating change (Infoa, 2010).
The major factors that contribute towards success are the assets whose impact on the success of the organization is significant. This paper will focus on the driving forces behind the success of Al Ain Municipality and the crucial success factors affecting the municipality.
The first driving force in Al Ain Municipality is regulations and policies that have been put in place by the government. Al Ain Municipality is part of the department of Municipal affairs and as such, it makes use of the Emiratization policy which is under the regulation of Abu Dhabi government.
This policy increases the number of Emirati nationals working in the public sector. It restricts organizations from abandoning their foreign expertise and instead substitutes it with UAE nationals with little knowledge hence making the industry unattractive. This impact can be countered by the department of municipal affairs through establishing training programs which would transform UAE nationals into skilled and able workforce (Adcbuae, n.d).
The second driving force affecting Al Ai Municipality is the increase in technological advancements. One of the main objectives of the government of Abu Dhabi is the provision of high quality services that meet customer’s needs. The municipality constantly requires emerging technologies in order to speed up transactions through easier data processing and saving.
Technological advancements facilitate growth of the industry hence increasing its attractiveness since quality services leave the customers satisfied. In order to achieve this, the industry is compelled to invest heavily in research and hiring of individuals who have good knowledge of information technology.
Change in lifestyles and attitude is the third driving force affecting AI Ain municipality. The growth of UAE has increased the awareness of people making them aware of their abilities and enabling them to judge whether the services they receive are of the right quality. This is a driving force that reduces the attractiveness of the industry since organizations have to work extra hard to satisfy more informed customers. This also implies that customers have good knowledge of what they want as opposed to being naĂŻve.
Lifestyle changes call for the industry to provide additional services that meet the new lifestyles of UAE nationals. Customer satisfaction can be enhanced through measuring the quality of services provided and trying to understand the customers. This should be accompanied by increased upgrading of the services of the municipality (Adcbuae, n.d).
In order to attain success, there are various success factors that should be considered by the organization. The first factor that the organization should consider in order to achieve success is ensuring that decision makers do not have high authority as well limiting the bureaucratic influence they have in the organizations. Authoritarian leadership is known to affect the running of an organization negatively hence it should not be encouraged. It makes it difficult for simple processes to be performed easily since it creates unnecessary barriers. In addition, it hinders implementation of new strategies since the management has no freedom to follow its own opinions.
The second success factor that can be employed by organizations is conducting regular measurements of how effective the practices of the organization are. Identifying problematic areas and making them known assists in coming up with new techniques that facilitate the achievement of the goals of the organization.
The speed at which services are provided and the profitability can be improved if the right assessment is done. The management can learn of the level of customer satisfaction if measurements are conducted. Coming up with a system of measuring the services provided by an organization enables the management to identify the causes of problems and possible solutions.
The third factor that AI Ain Municipality should consider in order to succeed is its interaction with the members of the public. Recognizing the interests of the customers and what they require enables the organization to improve its services by focusing on areas of weakness. This builds the customer’s trust in the organization since they get services they need to be updated on.
A detailed study of the factors that drive an industry and those which help organizations succeed is important since it enables organizations to identify areas they need to focus on. As a result, they are able to direct their efforts towards the appropriate direction. The policies and regulations of the government, and the changes in lifestyles and attitude are regarded as unattractive impacts of the municipal industry.
On the other hand, technological improvement is an attractive impact of the industry. For the municipal to be guaranteed of success, it is important to reduce the authority of the decision makers, measure the effectiveness of its tasks and establish sound communication with the customers.
