Description of the Journal and Its Audience
The journal article “Early Childhood Teachers’ Experiences during the COVID-19 Pandemic” by Maham Khalid describes the influence of a lack of resources on the quality of education and teachers’ well-being. The targeted audience for this study includes researchers, teachers, educators, policymakers, and the general public interested in educational research studies (Khalid, 2022). The author addresses the struggles teachers encountered during the pandemic while delivering virtual learning, including a lack of stable internet connection, given the rapid and ubiquitous transition to online learning.
Summary of the Article
In connection with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to transfer educational institutions to a remote work format in connection with the necessary measures to prevent the spread of infection. As a result, the pandemic has presented preschool teachers with unique challenges, facilitating the learning and development of younger students. The article deals with the problems of teachers of K-2 classes in the transition from individual learning to virtual learning. The author compares Pakistan and the United States and highlights the common problems during the transition to virtual learning. The common problems were the lack of resources, stable Internet connection, and computers. The author concludes that relevant stakeholders should use findings about the limitations of virtual learning to improve working conditions for teachers.
Critique of the Article
There are various strengths in this research, including versatility and reliability. Similarly, various limitations are identified, including a lack of potential depth and inflexibility. First, the article uses qualitative and quantitative data analysis from survey results (Khalid, 2022). This strategy is effective considering that it provides first-hand information, which increases the versatility and viability of this information (Khalid, 2022). The disadvantage is that some data used is outdated, and a small sample size indicates a significant lack of depth and flexibility. Information from this journal can be used by group literature to expound more on the limitations experienced when changing learning systems and how they can be solved. It also provides valid information that researchers can integrate into an intensive study of the challenges faced by teachers in distance learning.
