EasyJet is an airline carrier company that positions itself as a provider of low-cost point-to-point airline services across Europe. One of the crucial components of the company’s success is its human resources: easyJet operates with multiple employees, which indeed requires quality management and leadership skills (easyJet PLC, 2022). This report will review current managing strategies employed in the company, what leadership style it has adopted to fit the growing pool of the employees. In the end, it will propose solutions for the management issues easyJet has encountered in the recent years as a result of their specific approaches.
The company’s leader entered global markets, which led to the need to design business in such a way that the company was ready to win against competitors. Therefore, a change was needed to achieve global leadership, which refers primarily to individual management skills. The difference between a manager and a leader lies in the scope of responsibilities. While a manager may act as a simple mediator between employees, facilitating internal communication but not actively participating in the working process, a leader has to be deeply involved with their team and guide its actions. The other difference is that managers are concerned with short-term objectives, whereas leaders are continually looking forward to and dealing with change. Managers handle their roles in a transactional manner, whereas leaders seem to be more transformative. Thus, in order to develop a viable solution for easyJet’s management issues, one should approach them from two different perspectives: one of a manager and one of a leader.
