The English Premier League was founded in 1992 when it was separated from the Football League which developed in the country since 1888. Today the English Premier League is the professional corporation which includes 20 clubs as its members. The leading positions in the league belong to such clubs as Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. The English Premier League season is played since August till May without a break in games in winter. All the teams should participate in 38 matches. Thus, the teams play each other twice during the season. To determine the leader in the league, the system of 3 points is used. Thus, the winner of the match receives 3 points, the draw brings the teams 1 point and the loss results in no points for the game. According to the number of points received during the season, the league champion is considered (English Premier League n.d.).

The English Premier League is the most commercially beneficial league in Europe. Its popularity among the fans is explained by the proper policy of the corporation in relation to the TV broadcast of matches which is successfully realized since the league’s foundation when the first rights to broadcast the matches of the league were presented to Sky TV (History of the English Premier League 2011). Nowadays the English Premier League is considered as the powerful competitor in Europe because its clubs provide the vivid play not only in the context of the league’s matches but also because the teams of the league are highly successful while contesting with the foreign clubs.

The English clubs consist of the successful football players and provide effective strategies in the matches. These factors are realized because of the great financial resources used for the development of the clubs, and they also attract the global public to watching the matches of the league all over the world. It is possible to state that the league holds the leading position in Europe today, and it can be compared only with its main rival, Spain’s La Liga (Barclays Premier League n.d.).

Thus, the era of the modern football began in 1992 when the English Premier League was established, and this event stimulated a lot of changes in the character of football in Britain and provided many improvements. The English Premier League is the financial centre of the British football. This fact attracts a lot of investments to the field. Moreover, people are greatly interesting in betting in the league. The results of the seasons are often unpredictable which make people keep the interest in the play. The fans of the league always have the chances to win when they not only collect the necessary data and analyse the information properly but also work out and examine the strategies and pay attention to the trends. In this situation, those people who are betting in the league should concentrate on the statistical analysis of the data (English Premier League n.d.).

Nevertheless, the role of the statistical analysis is also significant for different categories of people who are interested in the successes of the English Premier League because this analysis helps to predict the progress of the definite teams according to the presented results and performed strategies of the play. The statistical investigation is important to predict the position of the team in the competition with using the mathematical analysis of its results, advantages, successes, and possible challenges.
