Edwards, T. L., Breeyear, J., Piekos, J. A., & Edwards, D. R. V. (2020). Equity in health: consideration of race and ethnicity in precision medicine. Trends in Genetics, 36(11), 807-809.
This article explores the main reasons for disparities in precise medicine implementation. The article applies a sociological and historical methodology to track how did the United States population changed during the 20th and 21st centuries and did it affect the healthcare service. The growing number of underrepresented vulnerable groups legally affects the lack of quality healthcare distributed to those groups. However, precision medicine that uses state-of-the-art technologies aims to develop new strategies to make healthcare more accessible to a broader number of people. More and more international healthcare institutions make improving the public healthcare sector and healthcare accessibility their main mission. Therefore, the findings made in the article will serve as a part of the video that is devoted to the aspects of change within the healthcare sector. Healthcare equity is included in the agenda of many organizations, and their achievements will be displayed in the video.

Horrill, T. C, Browne, A. J., Stajduhar, K. I. (2022). Equity-oriented healthcare: What it is and why we need it in oncology. Current Oncology, 29(1), 186-192.
Racial injustices in society affect different areas, including healthcare. In particular, the sector of oncology is subjected to racial and socioeconomic bias in the provision of cancer treatment. The article gathers evidence on how socially and economically disadvantaged members of society are rejected for equal treatment in the oncology sector. The authors further investigate the contributing factors to such injustice, which include the effects of stigma, discrimination, and cultural and financial barrios. Other reasons for the gap in equity are integrated into the structure of the cancer care sector that, by design, imposes additional obstacles to the timely diagnosis and treatment of cancer in vulnerable communities. Hence, the authors propose equity-oriented strategies and transformation in companies’ organizational culture to tackle the issue. The broad scope of evidence gathered by authors and the extreme examples of how brutal the injustice in the cancer care sector can be used in the video.
Jilani, M. H., Javed, Z., Yahya, T., Valero-Elizondo, J., Khan, S. U., Kash, B.,… & Nasir, K. (2021). Social determinants of health and cardiovascular disease: current state and future directions towards healthcare equity. Current Atherosclerosis Reports, 23(9), 1-11.
Health equity is a complex topic that involves numerous social, economic, political, legal, and cultural spheres. The article identifies the number of social determinants that are involved in the likelihood of occurrence, treatment trajectories, and patient outcomes of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The six main domains are focused on: nutrition, education, financial stability, physical environment and housing, healthcare system, and social context. The evidence gathered by the authors points to the existing correlation between those six domains and cardiovascular diseases. The social determinants of health act as CVDs risk factors and have an effect on patient outcomes and the occurrence of stroke, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and mortality. Hence, the article will act as another source of evidence that marginalized groups are more vulnerable and frequently face barriers to achieving healthcare services. The article’s structural and institutional obstacles explored in the video will be utilized.
