Expression of the Visual Art Through Music
Expressionism is a fine art that has been in existence for over one hundred years. It is a unique way of expressing messages through painting, where distortion is used to pass an important message. The image presented is a work of art by Børre Høstland, indicating how the changes in the world affect a person’s day-to-day activities (Bronken et al., 2019). The music selected for the work of art is the Peripetie by Schoenberg. The music expresses what is portrayed in the image by showing the sudden changes taking place. The intense red color in the image symbolizes massive climate changes, and humans are affected by them.
Connections Between the Visual Art and Music
The selected visual art and soundtrack share similar features to present the theme. The music by Schoenberg uses hexachords to show dissonance in the music notes. Similarly, visual art uses paints to show the changes happening in the world. The free rondo repeats a few times to signify the gradual process of introducing changes in the contemporary world. As the person in the image blocks the ears and screams, it means that there are challenges affecting humanity in the contemporary world (Di Gasbarro 315). The complex irregular rhythms indicate how the changes irregularly enter the world, especially when the set laws are not followed.
The image is connected to the song because they both trigger emotions through the vocals and the visual expression. The guitar in the music triggers memories of the older forms of music, and the image rejuvenates memories of a better world before the changes. The painting presents harmony and the presentation of the changes happening in the world in a similar way that the music does. The beats and music are in harmony (Di Gasbarro, 301). The musical harmony helps pass the information on the changes happening in the world and why they must be stopped. Some of the colors are repeated to emphasize the message.
Principles Used by the Visual Artist to Create the Work
The four main principles used by the artist in creating visual art include balance, repetition, proportion, and variety. The principles of balance ensure that the color applied to the image is well applied for a positive outcome. The red and blue paints are balanced to make the message clear that the sky is turning red due to global warming. Proportion is a principle of art that ensures that the colors are used in the appropriate portions (Bronken et al. 278). Variety creates visual influence by ensuring that different portions of the image show the man’s suffering in the painting. The principles used in the image are evident in the music used.
