Problem Description
The current issue is about the financial problems that students face in college due to paying the college fees and parking charges. Also, college teachers and professors face the same problem. The problem involves the payment of college parking fees and payment for food. The existence of the problem accelerates because the faculty lacks proper measures in controlling the finances that are obtained from students and other income-generating units (Jenkins par. 1).
The professors contribute a lot in terms of knowledge dissemination in the college and should be given discounts on the food and parking charges. Colleges should consider the professors and teachers as part of the management team. Thus, they should be considered for a reduction in charges. Colleges should abolish the parking fees for teachers and professors because the students contribute finances towards the running of colleges through tuition fees, examination fees, accommodation fees, food fees, and parking fees.
The management does not allocate passengers’ drop-zones in order to reduce congestion in colleges. The driveway entrances are not always clear in order to allow other college staff and students to access college resources. The police departments within the university do not play their roles in controlling traffic for the avoidance of jam and red zones. The daily permit charges and a number of car parks have strict regulations in order to maintain proper operations within colleges.
The disabled people within colleges do not receive priority in the parking spaces and also in accessing social amenities. The semester parking fees are essential in catering to the professors parking fees and food charges.
The professors and teachers should not lack the parking space at any time they arrive at colleges because they are essential in the running in running the academic and management affairs the running institutions (Jenkins par. 4). The faculty should not pay parking fees in colleges, and their food charges should be reduced significantly.
Proposed Solution
The semester parking charges should be increased, and the permits for students be reduced. The percentage increase of the charges will be important in generating revenues to cater for the charges of college teachers and professors. Those who park in restricted areas will be liable for fines that will be part of income generation for the faculty. The permits of professors and teachers should not be transferable to allow authenticity and accurate monitoring.
According to Jenkins (par. 6), the increasing number of students is helpful in the generation of finances through college fees and parking charges. Hence, improved finances should be used to reduce the burden on teachers and professors. In addition, disabled staff members, teachers, and professors should have special license plates in order to receive priority and exemption with regard to parking charges.
The presence of observable signs will be helpful to college police in controlling traffic and entry of the people within colleges. The institutions of learning should also have a mechanism of differentiating staff vehicles from student vehicles (The Editorial Board par. 7).
Under some circumstances, complete resolution may not work fully due to the presence of some people who do not follow regulations. Such people could include some teachers, professors, and students. Some students may refuse to pay an increase in the parking fees, and this may lead to a reduction in finances. In addition, some students may decide not to drive in their vehicles to colleges, and this could result in a reduction of car parking charges.
The overnight parking charges should also be increased in order to allow the colleges to achieve extra income for waivers of faculty professors and teachers. The validity period of parking charges should vary so as to allow a high number of students use personal vehicles to school. The varying seasons will ensure that students do not completely refuse to use vehicles when traveling to institutions of learning. The electric vehicles of students should also have varying charges that are higher than ordinary vehicles (Jenkins par. 8).
Students who do not follow the traffic rules within the university will lead to heavy fines. The money from the taxes will be part of the faculty income kitty for the purpose of college professors and teachers. Additional parking fees of the students using bicycles and motorcycles will be of the essence in generating income for catering for waivers of faculty professors. Jenkins (par. 5) argues that the purpose of increasing the charges is for the efficient running of the university duties and curricula.
The students play a part in the running of the university because they are the major financial providers. Proper management of the student finances will be of the essence in providing waivers on food and parking charges of the faculty professors and teachers. The finances from the students cater to the welfare of the teachers and professors employed by the university (The Editorial Board par. 5).
The issue is important to the university fraternity for the purpose of creating harmonious teaching and learning environment. The city residents and the local government within the college should be aware of the ongoing changes taking place within the university for the purpose of receiving financial and motivational support. The recognition of professors within the community and the university is a helpful motivational factor among the university students.
The university students will increase their effort on the educational studies and projects in order to find favor after achieving full professorship within the university. Academics are of the essence and have good rewards on successful students. The rewards of the successful students are full scholarships and sponsorship for master and doctorate levels. The university management should explain to the students the importance of high college fees and cooperation with the university management (Jenkins par 10).
Justification of the solution
The university senate should develop protocols that are essential in the running of the university, especially in the sectors of income generation. Income generation within the university should also come from other projects within the university. Davidson (par. 6) argues that the principals of the universities and constituent colleges should develop mechanisms of generating income for the university in order to have a smooth learning and diverse environment.
Major income generating units within the university is building apartments for rental and the presence of the university farm that provide a dairy product, chicken products, and pork products. In addition, the university can provide commuter services within the city and participate in community activities.
The increasing level of the demand for university education is a necessary factor that university management should consider during the recruitment process. The recruitment process will involve oral and written interviews in order to select focused and dedicated students (The Editorial Board par. 6).
Provision of university brochures stating the prospects of the university is of the essence among the potential university candidates and the good wishes of the university. The brochures should state the criteria for selecting university students and the benefits the students will obtain after joining the campus. The marketing strategies of the university will also involve building modern structures and provision of adequate facilities that will help in the smooth running of the university studies.
The management team is of the essence and should include professionals from all faculties within the university settings for the purpose of giving the best on the students and the community.
The importance of university within the city and the community should be evident through the service’s present within the university. The students should have good morals and help those in need and in times of calamities within the community. The incidences of crime should reduce and also decrease in the rate of unemployment (The Editorial Board par. 4).
Provision of waivers on parking fees and food charges on university professors is also receiving opposing viewpoints. The college students are claiming the college cost is so much that they cannot manage to cater for personal expenses. The university is putting the entire burden on the students instead of equally distributing responsibility among the university staff.
According to Davidson (par. 10), university management should develop ways of cost-sharing the burden and ensuring efficient management of finances. The proposal for the reduction of salaries of the university staff is an option in the cost-sharing process of the burden on the provision of waivers on the parking and food charges of the university professors.
Some students claim that universities are labor-intensive and spend much money on personnel management. Colleges are part of doing business and should not put the entire burden on the students in the provision of the business capital. The faculty salaries are burdened to the students for the students within the faculty pay the tutors and non-teaching staff.
The high demand for salaries may result in admitting a high number of students that the faculty cannot accommodate the extra students (Davidson par. 7). The university should develop significant research that will help in the generation of funds within the faculty instead of overburdening the students.
