The fire prevention services and the US Forest service have a lot in common, specifically fighting fire and take precautions against any possible risks. “Established in 1905, the Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands.” This paper’s main goal is analyzing the major contributions of the US Forest Service in fire prevention, enforcement and fire education research.
One of the US Forest Service’s subdivisions is Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management whose duties include “advance technologies in fire management and suppression, maintain and improve the extremely efficient mobilization and tracking systems in place, and reach out in support of our Federal, State, and International fire partners.” (US Forest Service, 2008)
Various achievements of this department could be mentioned along with the educational programs and establishing full integrity with other fire services, it should be mentioned apart of this the confirmation of contribution to fire prevention is the reception of Robert E. Browning, Jr. Fire Prevention Awards. Another undeniable issue concerning the US Forest Service is their great efforts in honoring their members and high moral values they try to keep toward their goal which is according to the large areas of forests in the United states is not an easy one.
If outlining the main points that could be used from the US Forest Service in fire prevention it could be their “Fire science program”. This program which mainly “Studies about natural fire regimes for different ecosystem types, the effects of different kinds of fire on the landscape” (US Forest Service, 2008) could be adapted to the needs of the fire prevention system and thus make their work more effective.
