Police officers who serve this department need to undergo more training to enable them deal with emerging criminal trends more effectively. The grant will be used to formulate effective training programs that impart high quality skills to police officers in this department. The department needs to acquire effective equipment to help it deal with different types of crimes that happen locally. The department also needs police officers who have the expertise to deal with different complex criminal incidents done by organized crime syndicates. The most rampant crimes that need to be dealt with are drug dealing, kidnapping, cyber crimes, violence, corporate fraud, human trafficking and prostitution. The police department needs to make its officers more knowledgeable on various criminal challenges to enable them enforce the law more effectively. This will make it possible for them to maintain law and order in the area (Hess, 2005, p. 67).
The police department needs to invest in a forensic laboratory that has high quality equipment to enable officers resolve crimes easily. The department needs to train police officers to analyze different evidence samples collected in different crime scenes to enable them arrest criminals easily. The department needs to train four lab specialists to analyze crime scene samples to resolve complex crimes. The forensic laboratory will have the capacity to analyze blood samples, finger prints, weapons and other objects collected in different crime scenes. Violent crime is becoming a major challenge due to the influx of foreigners from different parts of the world. Therefore, the department needs to train its officers to help them analyze what causes of violence in the area. This will make it possible for the department to deal with violent crimes more effectively (Hess, 2005, p. 72).
Police officers in this department need to be trained on emerging criminal trends that have become rampant in the country. They need to be trained on how to deal with juvenile offenders because many teenagers are being lured into crime. Therefore, the department will train some of its officers to help them rehabilitate juvenile offenders in the area. The department needs to come up with programs which encourage community partnerships to reduce criminal offenses done by juvenile offenders. The department will train four officers to educate young people in schools and other communal centers about the importance of maintaining law and order. The department also intends to train its officers to identify human trafficking and prostitution rings that operate in the area. This will help to curtail incidents of young women being bought into the area to engage in prostitution (Peak, 2010, p. 79).
The department needs to make its officers more conversant with technology. The department needs to install effective technological tools to help it combat complex crimes in the area. The organization needs police officers who have the expertise to uncover corporate fraud in form of financial embezzlements, money laundering and racketeering. The department also needs to make its officers capable of dealing with cyber crimes which have become more common. To achieve these goals, the department will partner with major IT security experts to train all officers to help them acquire knowledge on cyber crimes. The department will also partner with other police departments to enable it come up with effective solutions to stop cyber crimes. This will help the department maintain law and order in the area (Peak, 2010, p. 85).
