Knowledge, skills, abilities improved through the Healthcare Information Management course

This course has greatly improved my knowledge, skills, and abilities. I can now clearly understand why the emerging outpatient setting is more preferred than the initially preferred inpatient setting. Home-based care is the ideal form of care particularly for the elderly (Mozley, 2004). I have also noted that the multidisciplinary team approach is more efficient than the non-multidisciplinary team approach (Chang & Johnson, 2008). I have also gained knowledge of new procedures that patients must follow in both settings after going to a health facility.

They should start by registering at the health records department and get card numbers to be used on future visits. The next step is to meet a nurse to conduct checks and direct them to physicians for medication or treatment. I am now able to go to a health facility and follow all the procedures without asking for directions. I have also noted that, despite the differences between inpatient and outpatient settings, leadership in oncology and health care facilities play a significant role in both. From the interview between the student and the physician, I have acquired communication skills. I have improved my knowledge on how to approach professionals through a phone call, and how they respond to interviews. The other skills I have acquired are concerned with organizational management. A manager not only trains his or her staff but also integrates technological tools to keep up with the pace of the changing world and customer preferences (Berg, 2004). This will enable me to easily understand my clients and provide them with relevant services.

Evaluation of the work during the session

While working on this module assignment, I researched different library books and online health databases to gather relevant information for the assignment. This strategy assisted me in ensuring that relevant information gets included in every assignment. I performed the job well beyond my expectations. In each of the five-module assignments, I started with the name of the topic, then an outline to guide me complete the work in an organized manner. The outline also helped me not to skip any necessary information relevant to the assignments. It also provided the flow of the paper making it well planned, organized, and presentable (Mueller, 2004). I ensured that every module assignment had an overview or an introduction, followed by major sections about the topic, and lastly, future trends on the topic and conclusions. I used simple language that any reader could understand and provided lots of examples to support my arguments. These made my work comprehensive and understandable for readers. All the topics I chose for the five model assignments were exciting, and I enjoyed working on them with the main focus being to improve my knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Topics and suggestions how to improve the course material

The five topics that I identified for the five model assignments are easy to understand and follow. To begin with, these were topics of particular interest to me. Considering that I have always wanted to become a nurse, health and medicine are my primary concerns. As earlier mentioned, I researched information about the five topics from the school library books and online health databases. Medical databases such as Medline contain information about health and medicine issues (Malpani & Malpani, 2000). Considering that I used different sources to get the relevant information for the topics, I had no problems understanding them. Most of the descriptions given about the topics were straight forward. There was no need to go through the information provided multiple times to understand the topic. Most of the sources used simple language and had several examples given to describe the topics. This confirms why I had no problems understanding the five topics of my model assignments.

The future effects of this course

Many ways can be used to measure the future effects of what I have just gained from this course. The main methods are tests in examinations by answering questions related to the topics in this course and practical experience in fields closely related to topics in this course. Passing examinations related to this course and practically applying the skills, knowledge, and abilities gained from this course in the future will determine whether I understood the topics in this course.

The course outcomes and achievements

I achieved the course learning outcomes. After completing these model assignments, I should gain knowledge, skills, and abilities. The topics I identified in this course have taught me a lot. The knowledge I previously had of health facilities, the role of government in health care, the need for employing a multidisciplinary team approach, health care management, and the role of technology in hospitals among others is now comprehensive. I have developed capabilities and communication skills. I am now capable of relating with not only the health care workers but also all individuals around me. All these confirm that I have achieved the course outcomes.
