Introduction
Cataloging and organization of the items in collections and sets are often an important problem for those who collect something, or have numerous items of the same origin. The matter of this paper is the collection of DVD movies, which has been collected for several years, and which is the collection of the best movies, issued in the USA, Europe and Japan.
Cataloging
When the collection started growing, and requiring more and more space, the strict system of cataloging was required. First, the movies were located in accordance with the purchase sequence. Then, the two groups were defined: movies and cartoons. This differentiation was satisfying for some time, nevertheless, the further growth of the collection required more detailed structuring and bringing collection to order. Thus, genres were selected as the main key for differentiating the parts of the collection. At the moment, the DVDs are separated by the following categories: action, comedy, horror, family, animated, and romance.
The new masterpieces of cinematography and animation are created, and the collection is still growing. Originally, there are several ways to improve the cataloging technique. The most obvious is to select another feature, in accordance to which the DVDs will be separated: years of issuing, name of the director, personal rating. Another way is to make the electronic catalogue. Creation of the catalogue with the assistance of the corresponding software is a simple task, and the collection may be separated in accordance with several tags, acquired for every DVD, nevertheless, the problem of searching the required one in the collection will stay the actual one. Consequently, to avoid mixing of the DVDs, they should be stored in an alphabetical order, numbered or marked with special symbols, the sequence of which will be clear and understandable.
Supplies
Storing of a DVD collection is closely associated with the necessity to have enough space for the boxes. Thus, the most important supply is a shelf, preferably with several stories. Thus, the entire collection will be placed in a single location, but not in different corners of the apartment. The next helpful supply is the box with a lock, where the shelves may be placed, or groups of the DVDs may be stored. These boxes are required for preventing the collection from the access of little children and those, who like ruining the perfect order of the collection.
When the PC cataloging was resorted to, the supplies which were used are the marker, sticky stripe and notebook. The marks, made in a notebook were made if some unpredictable events occurred, for the further amendment of the tagging system in the cataloging software.
Finally, the most important supply is the PC with the cataloging software, which allows the systematic tagging of the DVD collection, sorting of the movies in accordance with genres, rating, description, directors, country, year of issuing etc. Thus, the electronic arrangement of the collection is the most universal and comfortable, as it may be extended, amended, or entirely changed. The only demerit of this system is the inability to transfer the database for another cataloging software, if there is a necessity to do so. Nevertheless, all the other features of such arrangement way are the advantages, which can not be attributed to any manual structuring of the collection.
