The human right protection dictated by the Catholic faith prevailed at the time of Thomas and Aristotle. The church declared the acts of slavery as infamy and conjured to discourage slavery since it was dishonored God and destroyed the lived of many people. Essentially, the practices of kidnapping and slavery were apparent and acceptable in most cultures across the globe. However, these vices were heavily discouraged by various sections of the Old and New Testament. This prohibition was a root course of the declaration made by Catholic Church (Schwartz 405).
Under the management of Leo XIII the modern culture of faith and human rights were initiated and developed in a holistic manner that resisted the development of human right violations. In this respect, the church had established set of directions in which each person must live in equity with other people. However, the effectiveness of slavery and such associated acts as trafficking and kidnapping are still apparent globally. In this light, this paper will evaluate these serious violations of human rights associated with the Catholic theology (Regan 132).
Human Trafficking
The process of human trafficking occurs in three steps incorporating recruitment, transportation and exploitation. Colonel states that “since 2006 the Rise of organized crime and violence related to drug cartels in Mexico has brought serious challenges for the authorities to provide security for those who live within export”. Exploitation is a lethal attribute involving slavery and forced labor. Moreover, some cases of forced labor involve pornography, prostitution, domestic workers as well as removal of organs for transportation.
The control of the victims involves such cases as where they have debt bondage, blackmail, use of violence, application of threats, and taking away of documents and money. The catholic theology is against these vices that demoralize the equality of people. The catholic faith dictates that each person deserves equal treatment. Besides, it has been against slavery as depicted since the time of Moses in the Old Testament.
Forced Migrant Labor
People were incorporated in a system where they migrated to places where they could find reliable jobs. However, the promises that are made during the migration period are not entirely true. It appears that people who migrate to these regions are left without the documents and connections to return in their countries. In this respect, the migrants are abused and forced to work as slaves while trying to survive in these regions. Illegal immigrants are also vulnerable to the abuse since they cannot seek legal assistance from the host government. The catholic theology points that they cannot ignore the people facing exploitation as the followers of Christ.
Sexual slavery
In some cases, people have been exported to other countries illegally, where they are used as sex workers. The migration is usually funded in one way transport so as to prevent return. The slaves cannot request assistance from the government since they do not have any identification in such a nation. Therefore, some people benefit and might eventually kill the trafficked people. The trafficker of this vice cannot be subjected to criminal violation by the victims since they do not have the legal identification. Catholic teachings are against sexual immorality (Adeney and Sharma 213).
Primarily, it implies that prostitution and other sexual immoralities are far much out of the line from the beliefs and teachings of the Catholic faith. Marriage is the only sacred way in which people should have sex.
Decisions from Catholic Theology
Essentially, there are fundamental absolutes that can guide the process of making biblical decisions. First, a healthy and ethical decision must correspond to the teachings of the bible which are the guidelines that portray the will of God. Therefore, for a biblical decision to be regarded as a healthy one, it must be limited to God’s disciplines. Catholic theology advised the people to reject the calls for illegal migration and report these cases to the relevant authorities for investigation (Schelkens 96). In this regard, the church argued that no person should make decisions for other people and hold the position of discouraging trafficking through counsel.
In order to make a healthy decision, it must be limited to the ideologies which the society regards as morally upright. This implies that the decision should not contravene the morals of the society even if they are biblically right. Since the deprivation of human rights is implemented by the people in the society to impact on their daily lives, it must correspond to their moral behaviors so that they can abide by that decision. If the decision maker can apply these biblical aspects in the modern society, it could contravene the ideologies of humanity which essentially states that cruelty should be challenged with courtesy.
Consultation
When making decisions for these serious violations, it is important to understand that the decision may impact on the people. As a result, making adequate consultations and using the NGO’s as well as governmental organization to provide ethical contributions in solving these cases is paramount. The parties can assist in gathering their opinions in order to avoid contravening their beliefs and omitting helpful suggestions.
However, the decision makers should choose the people to be included in a wise manner in order to achieve the best results. This does not mean that they should only comprise of the people who are always submissive to directives. Instead, it should incorporate the controversial, indifferent, and supportive people. This diversity helps in presenting a decision that has considered all the aspects of the problem including the benefits, challenges and consequences.
Biblically Evident Issues of Human Right
It is important to understand that the bible does not have the direct solutions for all problems. However, the catholic teaching has remedies for most problems that face people across the globe incorporating the violation of human rights and deviation from their theology. In this case, if the solution is not direct, faith determines the implications or indirect remedy. Solutions for societal problem can be solved in three categorical steps.
First, one should determine the problem and evaluate all the aspects conjoined to it. Second, a relationship between the real problem and the biblical teaching should be identified in order to assist in making a reverse implication. Lastly, the reasons of making such an implicative decision must be elaborated to a substantially high degree of conviction and clarity.
Conclusion
Human rights and catholic arguments are two inseparable aspects of humanity that play a vital role in determining the credibility of people’s actions. In essence, for a religion to become credible, it must be founded on the basis of strong ethical frameworks that uphold human dignity and self respect. On the other hand, religion is a great force that upholds societal morals in order to develop and maintain ethics. This implies that religion and ethics must be used simultaneously when making decisions which affect humanity.
