Introduction
My preferred observation scene is a street match to educate people about gays and lesbians. The main reasons why I chose this scene are based on the need to understand the gay and lesbian community. Most people including me have had different interpretations regarding how this group behaves. This has made us despise them and regard them as people with weak morals. Even though there has been advocacy in the media and other social forums to embrace people with divergent sexuality views this has not gone well with most people. Therefore, I chose to visit this site to learn about the group members and know what most people have no idea about.
Human sexuality involves the behavior of people towards members of the same or different sex; however, it can also refer to people who have no feelings of attraction to any sex. The common human sexuality groups involve heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals and asexuality. They refer to people who have feelings towards members of the opposite, same, both and no attraction to any sex respectively.
However, I am not blaming the anti-gay and lesbian activists but my intention is to get first hand information about their sexuality to enable me to have a comprehensive analysis of the foundation of their beliefs. Most people have different interpretations and understanding of this community; however, visiting this site will offer me first hand experience with them and this will enable me to understand them better.
Expectations
I am a heterosexual person and hoped that this would not affect my attitude towards these people. I have always been attracted to members of the opposite sex since puberty and have no reason of changing my sexuality.
Even though, I have never been a member of this or other related public groups I feel this event will give me an opportunity to participate in sexuality awareness campaigns. This will form significant part of my life history since I have never participated in any demonstration.
However, I am also reluctant to participate in the marching session since I am not sure of what will happen to the protestors should there be confrontations with other anti-gay and lesbian group. At the scene I expect to get to know more about their sexuality and speak with some gays and lesbians so that I can decide whether to participate in the march or not. However, I will not be surprised to see members from my school, church and friends in this gathering since this is an important aspect of human sexuality.
In addition, I expect to see how gays and lesbians behave towards each other. In most cases, heterosexuals usually look, hold, hug and touch each other intimately and express their love openly. I am very keen to observe how these people behave towards each other and learn how they attract their partners.
Observation
Homosexuality is a common bond that unites these people and makes them look like a family. Most women and men in this group behave in intimate ways with members of their sexes and have no fear expressing it. It is obvious that they are comfortable in the company of same sex members. I also observed that each couple had a “male and “female” member that behaved according to gender stereotypes. This means than in gays there was one man who behaved like a lady and in lesbians there was someone who behaved like a man. Even though, these people preferred having intimate relationships with same sex members they nonetheless expected their partners to behave like members of the opposite sex.
I also observed that contrary to beliefs that gays and lesbians are sexual perverts and drug addicts this was not observed at all. These people are organized and only four out of five people admitted to not taking drugs since their childhood. They were willing and open to talk about their sexual lives and this made me to understand that they are not sexual perverts as we are made to believe by the media and other opponents. Therefore, their sexuality preferences are not in any way synonymous with perversion.
However, due to sexuality preferences there was a culture shock when at first I approached this group. Everybody seemed to identify me as an outsider since I had never been in their previous meetings. In addition, all proponents of gay and lesbian activities were dressed in similar outfits that had messages printed on them. One member requested me to wear one t-shirt before telling me anything about them. Since I was willing to learn more about this group I reluctantly accepted the offer. I knew the media people were around and would most likely air the event in the news. I was very frightened that my parents, siblings or friends were going to see me among these people and think I had changed my sexuality.
This activity influenced my perception of gays and lesbians. First, I had thought that these people are strangers and no one knows them or their activities. I was shocked to learn that these are our brothers and sisters. We share with them meals, schools, social amenities and other public facilities. The government and other organizations should not focus their attention on issues that expose these people as members of an outlawed gang since they do not engage in any unlawful activities.
This activity had a significant impact on my view of sexuality and now I know gays and lesbians must be respected despite their sexual orientations. Moreover, I learnt that my sexuality should not be used to discriminate against other people.
I am ready to participate in this activity again since it offers me opportunities to learn about various sexuality issues. First, it shaped my misconceptions regarding this group’s activities and also enabled me to understand these people. Secondly, it gives marginalized people opportunities to express themselves and inform the world of their existence. Moral contentious issues are no longer restricted to books and broadcasting houses but are now open to the public for scrutiny.
They identified their sexuality during puberty and this is when most of them started associating with members of the same sex. As a result, most homosexuals are identified through observing their mannerisms and reactions towards members of the same sex. Homosexuals are attracted to members of the same sex and not those of different sex.
Conclusion
People have different sexual orientations that are different from societal expectations. Even though, most communities socialize their members to be attracted to people from the opposite sex this has not always been the case. An individual’s sexuality is determined by the company the person keeps before, during and after puberty.
