Introduction
Food waste is a rather serious problem, which is oftentimes wrongfully ignored as an occurrence that contributes to climate change. Although it is uncertain how significant these contributions are, the amount of methane gas has been witnessed as a result of wasting food. This leads to multiple questions regarding how this problem should be solved, who should be responsible for the solutions, and how excess food can be minimized.
Discussion
I think that some of the measures that can be taken to avoid extra amounts of food in restaurants and stores by gathering data on the population and their average needs. From my perspective, most of the ways of addressing this issue should fall on the government and companies and partially on individuals. This is because the latter play a significant, albeit smaller role in the problem of wasting food than the former two. Prior to watching the video, I did not know about Copia and The Food Cam, however, I do think their ideas can be rather helpful (Vox). These projects could help poor people who need food. I hope to be more mindful about the amount of food I purchase and consume, in order to avoid buying too much of it. By implementing this mindset, I could avoid spending money on certain groceries that I may not actually need.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I believe that some of the measures that can be taken to prevent food waste are calculating the population and their needs. Governments and companies should be responsible for most of the solutions, while individuals ought to implement some of them. I consider Copia and The Food Cam to be rather helpful projects for the matter. Finally, I could be more mindful about the amount of food I purchase, thus resolving the problem.
