The global situation with the access to clean and drinkable water is limited. In most developing countries, a lack of safe water prevents people from leading healthy lifestyle and achieving proper levels of hygiene. Increasing their access is one of the most significant objectives for the nearest future. As noticed by researchers, innovative solutions to achieve global clean water and sanitation are needed, and the positive partnership of various organizations and groups from different spheres and levels may help with this task.
Thankfully, people take an active role in searching for a perfect and efficient solution, offering creative ideas. One such project is aimed at creating a drinkable book – a simultaneously educational and useful tool that serves several purposes (Spinks, 2017). First of all, as noticed by Imamura (2022), “at least 1.8 billion people globally use a source of drinking water that is fecally contaminated” (slide 21). What is more, “nearly 1,000 children die due to preventable water and sanitation-related diarrheal diseases” every day (Imamura, 2022, slide 22). Consequently, it is of vital importance not only to increase awareness but also to supply people with useful tools so that they can purify the water themselves if necessary.
The essence of the drinkable book is unique and simple at the same time. According to Spinks (2017), the book has valuable information regarding water sanitation; it is printed on “scientific coffee filter paper” that people can use to purify water and make it drinkable (para. 4). Overall, international and non-government organizations should invest in this idea and help create enough books and transport them to all necessary places. Local governments may assist with the dissemination of the books, and people can buy them for a nominal amount to fund further attempts to solve the global problem.
