Organizational information theory focuses on communication and data exchange in organizations. Hence, according to this theory, an organization is not merely a rigid structure but rather a dynamic process of data sharing. Effective communication of information is indispensable for a company’s successful functioning since the overall result depends on the collection, management, and exchange of data between its members. Indeed, according to this theory, an organization’s activity largely relies on “the process of making sense of equivocal and ambiguous information” (West & Turner, 2010, p. 293).
Members of an organization fulfill the meaning-making process by implementation, classification, and maintenance of information. Thus, this theory will be helpful for the proposal since it will facilitate the process of converting paper documents into a digital form. Employees will benefit from organizational information theory because its application will prevent them from omitting some pieces of data or converting the same information twice. Further, this theory will promote adequate data storage and protection of information, since it will help to determine the location of data, as well as its confidentiality level. The extent of reduced ambiguity of the processed information directly reflects an organization’s success and progress.
Media ecology theory will be useful for the proposal because it will demonstrate how electronic media of information connecting people from all over the world affect our way of world perception. Media ecology theory relies on the postulate that “society cannot escape the influence of technology” (West & Turner, 2010, p. 429). As a result, technology plays a central role in the life of virtually all population groups. Therefore, this theory will promote the process of going paperless. It will persuade relevant stakeholders that digitalization is inevitable in the electronic age.
Narrative persuasion theory will be another useful tool for the implementation of the proposal. This theory relies on the potential of cohesive and coherent stories to influence the attitudes and behaviors of people. In this case, narratives will be the detailed descriptions of numerous benefits achieved through the development of a paperless environment. These narratives will include the expected advantages for nature, including reduced deforestation and decreased pollution, as well as ensuring a comfortable working setting for each employee. Hence, the application of narrative persuasion theory will impact the stakeholders’ decisions and accelerate the digitization process.
