Good Leaders: Definition

Being a good leader is a very difficult task; in fact, in some cases, it is excruciatingly difficult to sustain the working system within an organization or a team. Leadership styles may vary depending on the situation to which they are applied, yet most leaders share common characteristics. As a rule, a leader is seen as a person driven by the willingness to encourage innovations and positive change (Chauhan 2016).

In addition, a leader is expected to motivate and inspire people, promoting their development (Northouse 2018). Therefore, a leader should exhibit character traits such as honesty, ability to collaborate, conflict and time management skills, commitment, and decision-making. It is absolutely critical for a leader to be able to encourage innovative thinking since the specified ability will define the efficacy of a team and the levels of its performance.

Example of Leadership

Examples of effective and strong leadership are very numerous when considering world history. For instance, Mahatma Gandhi can be seen as a very effective leader since he managed to motivate people to make a significant social and political change (Dhiman 2018). Despite the difficulties that his political campaign entailed, he managed to retain his political beliefs in the face of adversity and eventually lead India to freedom from the British colonial rule (Kalu 2016).

Gandhi was a rather unusual leader given his strong stance on the subject of nonviolence as the main force behind a political movement (Crosby 2017). Nonetheless, his passion and determination helped him to attain his goal and lead the country to freedom, encouraging a moral and spiritual change within its population. One might consider Gandhi to be lacking efficiency due to its peaceful nature, yet his determination made his leadership approach not only worthwhile but also unique.
