Strength-to-Strategy Plan
Leadership Strengths
My leadership strengths include the following: situational awareness, self-awareness and communication. From my experiences and discussion, I have developed the ability to have a separate approach to hazard control, since it helps medical workers to be used to identifying risks, understanding the actions to be taken, and establish where to get the equipment meant for use during the incident.
Self-awareness will be key in developing my profession as it entails examining my thoughts, desires, behaviours, and perception. By having self-reflection, I will be able to continuously improve as a leader and scholar in the medical field. By assessing my strengths and challenges, I will inspire my team to do the same. I also have effective communication skills, which will help me when coordinating and delivering healthcare to patients. I sufficiently understand and infer the information while serving clients, which aids appropriate medical problems attention.
Leadership Opportunities for Growth
My first opportunity is to identify my motivation, removing obstacles that keep me from improving myself. I also need to unmask my flaws by accepting my fear; once I know my fears, no one can use them against me. One of the most critical growth opportunities is to learn how to use my failures as an advantage. I will learn to develop from my failures to shape myself and appreciate feedback from others.
Strategies for Turning Opportunities into Strengths
The first strategy for turning opportunities is to identify my leadership strengths, since it is critical to know them and use them at the right time to reach the maximum advantage. Secondly, it is essential to set specific goals that are measurable, precise, and timely. This strategy helps to build realistic plans and evaluate their progress. Thirdly, discovering my leadership style is another crucial strategy, since it helps maintain a cohesive working environment and find aspects for improving and learning (Cope & Murray, 2017). Moreover, communication and cooperation are critical elements in any medical worker’s work; thus, I will seek support from other leaders. This strategy is essential for me as a person who needs to gain knowledge and as a leader who can improve my team’s work by cooperating with other leaders.
Strategies for Leveraging the Strengths of Others
Strategies for leveraging the strength of other primary concentrated on work with their advanced skills. The first strategy is to focus on strengths rather than weaknesses because despite the need to deal with limitations, using strengths motivates employees and improves their performance (Meyers et al., 2019). Thus, the second strategy is to match work tasks with employees’ strengths. This step helps to maximize the performance of every employee and their work satisfaction as they will feel their usefulness and success. Therefore, I will apply my leadership skills to improve the team’s performance by determining employees’ strengths and appointing them to the most favorable position.
Action Plan for Leadership Formation
Analyze CV
I have an undergraduate and master’s degree in nursing, which gives me an added advantage in my career in healthcare. I will apply the acquired skills in my profession as a DNP leader and scholar. While working as an operational liaison between the wound team, I earned interpersonal skills while improving patient care. I also developed organizational skills when scheduling follow-up appointments with the vascular surgeon.
As a staff nurse at Cherry Lane Nursing Home, I was tasked with delegating assignments to the GNAs and coordinating care with the unit manager and the interdisciplinary team. I was able to pass information to the relevant parties concisely and timely with minimal chaos in service delivery. As a community nurse at Evangel Cathedral Church, I developed incredible skills in providing emergency assistance to patients. While working as a wound nurse at the South River Health and Rehabilitation Center, I augmented my communication skills, since I was tasked with providing partial care coordinated with the interdisciplinary wound team.
Additionally, I improved my effective communication skills when dealing with the patients, physicians, and family members on the progress of their medication. While working as a weekend supervisor, I improved my communication with doctors, directors, and administrators while collaborating with the dietary and social work team members. As the supervisor, I improved my situational awareness to ensure that the healthcare facility was prepared for hazard situations. As a family nurse practitioner, I can have the self-awareness to impact teamwork at the place of work.
Action Plan for Strengthening CV
My CV strategies result from my leadership skills based on Zenger Folkman’s online assessment tool outcome. From the evaluation, my learning agility needs improvement, and I will improve by having a mentor or coach who has a good performance record in the healthcare profession (MacLeod, 2021). I will also try to develop new solutions in problem-solving instead of depending on the existing ones. From my results from the Zenger Folkman’s, I need to improve my risk-taking abilities to enhance my CV. According to Giang (2017), I have to change the psychological responses that keep me from taking a risk. I yearn to overcome some of my natural responses to doubt and anxiety by letting my subconscious take over. To improve my CV, I envision improving my learning agility and risk-taking to take more challenging projects and make them successful.
Action Plan to Turn Shortcomings into Growth
I envision converting my weaknesses into strengths to bolster my career progression. Firstly, I will identify my weaknesses that need to be overcome and made into strengths (Paringit, 2020). I will have self-reflection coupled with outside perspectives from my trusted friends and family members. Secondly, I will then look for the corresponding strength for each weakness identified. Thirdly, I will get advice from my career mentor and colleagues on how to overcome the weaknesses. I will have to ensure that I have a good mentor from who I can seek advice. The conversion of my shortcomings into strengths requires external input from my friends and mentors to identify my weaknesses and get the appropriate solution.
Conclusion
I possess leadership strengths such as situation awareness, self-awareness, and communication that significantly impact my career progression. My leadership opportunities for growth include identifying motivation, unmasking my flaws by accepting my fears, and learning from failures.
