Today, school administrators perform as the leaders to control the activities with the school environment and organize the work of specialists in order to respond to the organization’s purposes and complete the set goals. However, the world changes quickly and new skills and abilities will be required for the effective leadership in some years. School administrators’ leadership and associated actions contribute significantly to the effectiveness of a school as organization that is why much attention should be paid to the development of the appropriate leadership plan which can be successfully used not only today but also as the plan oriented to perspectives and potential progress (Dahir, 2009).
A school administrator of the future is an active leader who uses the leadership qualities and attributes in order to improve the situation and create the conditions for the significant progress, thus, it is important to discuss the activities of school administrators in the future along with working out the leadership plan which can predict and meet the future changes in the sphere.
A leader is a forward-looking person who can predict and analyze situations in several steps in order to choose the most effective variant of developing the definite situation or phenomenon. As a result, leaders are always ready to the changes within the industry which can affect their activities. In one year, school administrators will be expected to be more prepared to the changes within the industry and more flexible to adapt to the innovations and new tendencies because today it is possible to speak about the extreme speed of changing trends related to any sphere of the people’s activities. In three years, school administrators will be able to control more organizations such as schools and associated institutions or perform more duties because of the tendency to optimize all the processes (Baloglu, 2012).
Thus, the public will expect more responsibility and more leadership from school administrators than today. The situation will develop in five years, and the responsibilities of school administrators will change in relation to focusing more on the managerial functions. In ten years, school administrators will become leaders operating with the support of new technologies and competent staff in order to complete the fixed goals appropriately (Baloglu, 2012; Dahir, 2009). From this perspective, the processes of optimization, expansion of the leader functions, and the focus on flexibility and effective decision-making will result in the successful coordination of the staff’s work depending on less efforts and resources.
A leadership plan to respond to the expected changes in the sphere of education and to meet alternations in functions of school administrators should be based on the points provided by Kouzes and Posner who state that the main five practices necessary for leaders to become successful are to model the way, to inspire a shared vision, to challenge the process, to enable others to act, and to encourage the heart (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). The first step is to model the way while presenting the goals for performance and the organization’s functioning based on the definite values important for the sphere. Thus, it is necessary to state clearly that the main goal is to provide the high-quality education according to the widely accepted values and ideals.
The next step after the purpose-defining process is the focus on the potential possibilities of the development in order to motivate the staff to perform effectively. The leadership plan should be oriented to new approaches and innovation in order to provide the opportunities for achieving success in the industry. This orientation discussed in detail, with determining the possibilities, is the next point of the plan.
Nevertheless, the leader is successful when he or she can motivate the employees and organize them for the work according to the set principles and standards. It is important to provide employees with possibilities to improve their education and professionalism to contribute to their commitment and competence. That is why, leaders should focus on planning the activities for creating a strong team oriented to the goal common for all the members and on the further appraisal of the staff’s achievements (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). This point is important to be followed because of the increased competitiveness within the industry when leaders foresee the changes and choose the professional employees to adapt to the new trends and complete the organization’s goals.
The discussed plan can influence the development of the organization positively because it is oriented to the individual effectiveness of not only a school administrator as the leader but also employees. Furthermore, the leadership plan provides specialists with the main points on the ethical behaviour appropriate in the organization and shared values to achieve the organization’s goals. The leadership plan is also effective to regulate the further development of an organization because of fixing strong norms, responding to the changes in the sphere, and providing the rules for operating within the new environment. Such plans are necessary to guarantee the progress of organizations within the competitive industries and environments.
