The organization I was making logo for is a world well known structure World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It is one of the biggest organisations in the world which cares about the future of our planet, trying to protect animals from the extinction and to save our planet for the future generations. It has a great history – for more than fifty years it has been trying to help different animals to survive under the declining conditions. WWF has its representatives throughout the world, counting more than 5 million members. It also constantly investigates some new ways to protect the endangered species and involves every possible forces to the solution of the keen problems.
The creation of the concept was not difficult as it became obvious that only the representative of some rare or even endangered species should be there, as one of the main companys task is to struggle for their survival. My choice fell on the blue whale and the panda. They are known to be very vulnerable and cute at the same time, drawing peoples attention to the logo as everyone likes them. Having started with the wale, I suddenly realized that panda will be the better choice.
The reason was not in the level of cuteness, as they both are cute, but in their natural colouring. Black and white colours of panda will give the artist more possibilities to transfer his ideas than blue colours of whale. The black colour in the logo should underline that things are not so good and the great danger exists.
Having made the choice, I started painting also thinking about adding the symbol of infinity to the logo, combining it with the letters W W F and the panda. However, something troubled me and I continued thinking. Then the idea of a man hugging this animal came to my mind. I realised that this is an ideal solution. The infinity symbol on the logo can confuse the viewer and give him the false idea that pandas are eternal and do not need any help.
The hugging man on the contrary can show the main idea of this organisation. Only human care and love can protect these perfect animals from total extinction. The egg shaped human head and body, in which we can see the head of the panda, show the balance which can be achieved in the nature with the help of this fund. Peoples care should be like an egg from which the panda should pip in this world. The egg is also known to be the symbol of balance and harmony that is why I considered it to be the best choice. I was going to use only black and white colours at the beginning of my work, but after I have made some sketches, I realised that something is missing.
The logo was very dull without any bright spots, that is why I decided to add some blue colour to it. The eyes of the panda and the word “Wildlife” are painted in blue. The colour is chosen not accidentally – it symbolizes peace, harmony, trust and tolerance. The whole logo should be interpreted as the symbol of loyalty and integrity as well as understanding, balance, empathy and discovery. People should understand their great role in the issue of saving animals.
