Introduction
Media plays an instrumental role in the process of enhancing communication. Human beings are social by nature, raising their urge and need to embrace various advancements to ensure that they can communicate effectively. Technological advancement has played a valuable role in ensuring that people can group communication based on the information being contained, and this has acted as a sieve in eliminating the reading of irrelevant information. The use of news stories for purposes of communication has been embraced by most of the authors with the main aim of ensuring that they can present a summary of all the information regarding specific technology and its relevance to the users. Therefore, it is useful to analyze the two news stories presented and establish their relevance in creating awareness on matters of media in enhancing communication.
Assumptions
Headlines play a useful role in the process of communicating the contents of the entire article, and this helps the reader to develop some hypothetical thinking on the article based on the headline before initiating the reading process. before reading the articles, I had a deep thought on the role of mass media in the society which was linked to communication. However, the article had an image attached just below the heading, which gave some implications on the direct connection of communication with psychology. The image implied how mass media could be linked to the current psychological issues being experienced by various people in society. In the second article, the author focused on analyzing communication, and this resulted in the inclusion of art that would help in giving a reflection on the past. The artwork revealed the naivety of human beings, thereby giving direct implications on the role of communication in creating the desired changes.
Overall claim
The communication process is very useful in the process of ensuring that people can access valuable information that helps in the process of attaining the desired changes. The process of communication through the use of mass media plays a very useful role in the process of attaining the desired changes in society. According to the author, the use of media in enhancing communication has created the desired changes due to its incorporation into the technology, which serves a great percentage across the globe (Media, Society, Culture, 2019). The author argues that most societies have embraced the use of mass media and neglected the traditional forms of communication due to its strict adherence to the communication structure (Media, Society, Culture, 2019). The use of mass media tends to value culture and traditions through an emphasis on communication structure.
The experts tend to combine the use of information and communication technologies with the main objective of ensuring that there is the attainment of the desired changes. Therefore, consideration of the culture and traditions of the people help in the enhancement of mass communication that helps in influencing society and attaining the desired changes. For instance, during the wake of COVID-19, World Health Organization solemnly relied on the use of mass media for purposes of communication and educating the people on the prevention measures that would help in lowering the rate of spreading the viral infection (Media, Society, Culture, 2019). Therefore, the information conveyed by World Health Organization was educative and intentional.
Evaluative criteria
Being objective in writing articles is very useful in ensuring that the article can serve the intended purpose. The authors of the two articles have failed the process of being objective and maintaining relevance in the process of writing their content. In the first article by scholar Mark Poepsel, he failed to be objective, and his overall focus was on the different forms of communication (Media, Society, Culture, 2019). According to the title, he ought to have focused much on the roles of mass media in society for enhancing communication. Mark mainly focused on the different forms of communication, and this was a full diversion from the topic that had been placed in his article (Media, Society, Culture, 2019). The other article written by Cory Gleichner, the article had been awarded a title where the overall objective was to analyze the role of mass media in society (The Role of Mass Media in Society, 2019). However, Cory focused on giving a brief understanding of various forms of communication and how they enhance communication in society (The Role of Mass Media in Society, 2019). The brief analysis makes it hard for the reader to contemplate all the issues and how they impact society.
Attaining public attention to the reader is very instrumental in ensuring that the overall objective of the article is attained. The authors of the two articles appeared to have established their target population to be composed of elites who have full information on the role of mass media in society. Little information was shared on the role of mass media in the enhancement of communication in society, and this resulted in a loss of the sensational nature of writing (The Role of Mass Media in Society, 2019). There was no accuracy in the information regarding the history of communication and the historical tenets of communication. Most of the information was based on general analysis and thoughts that were based on assertions of other writers, and this contributed to the loss of excitement and interest in the public.
Peer-reviewed source meaning
The use of peer-reviewed sources has received much recognition across the globe due to the vigorous analysis the articles undergo before being published and made available for public use. A peer-reviewed source refers to a source that has been evaluated by other scholars and editors who assess its conformity to the established research standards. The evaluation is much more vigorous to ensure that the information contained in the source is reliable and factual and conforms with the ethics of research. In my search and quest to enlarge my knowledge and understanding of mass media, I read several peer-reviewed sources. I, therefore, was able to learn research skills where most of the assertions are based on actual representation in society. For instance, in one of the peer-reviewed sources, the authors mainly focused on the use of primary sources to evaluate their hypothesis on the role of mass media in society. The source further utilized the use of cross-sectional and comparative methods of data collection. The combination of the methods of data collection was aimed at ensuring that the information collected is based on facts and helps to ascertain the hypothesis, which is subject to changes due to the adoption of modern-day civilization that has affected communication channels.
Conclusion
In conclusion, articles have a role in changing society by ensuring that there is the attainment of the desired changes. However, some of the authors fail to recognize the role of using articles in creating awareness and educating society, and they tend to assume that all readers have the same knowledge, and this affects the reliability of the contents of the articles despite being published online. For purposes of learning and building knowledge basis, the use of peer-reviewed sources appears to be the most appropriate due to the vigorous analysis the articles tend to undergo for them to be published and authenticated for academic and educational use.
