Hospital’s Mission
An organization cannot be effective in its duties and objective if it does not have a well-defined mission. A mission therefore guides the actions and activities of an organization as well as providing standards for the organization (Daft, 2009). As a major and a developed organization children hospital of Los Angeles has a mission statement that directs its operations. The hospitals mission statement is not only important to the hospital and but also to the people and state.
Children are the future generation and therefore taking care of their health needs is investing in the future. The Los Angeles children hospital noted this fact and set “creating hope and building a healthier futures” as their mission. This mission statement is an all-inclusive mission since it covers the guiding principles of the hospital as an organization and an institution and in addition, it provides the hospitals objectives.
The children hospital of Los Angeles mission gives its main role as creation of hope through provision of quality healthcare services. This role then defines the goals and objectives that every stakeholder in the hospital should achieve for the hospital to achieve its main mission. This role also requires that the hospital should be competent and for that reason, the hospital should have the latest technologies, knowledge and staff. This makes the hospital to define its next sub-mission as to be a leading pediatric research institution. After combining the two sub-missions, the children hospital of Los Angeles then forms its main mission statement as building of a healthier future. A healthier future is not only important to the hospital but also to the entire community and this proves the importance of the hospitals mission (Daft, 2009).
Importance of the mission
Human beings work better under guidelines and therefore the mission states the necessary guidelines and standards that guide staff within an organization (Daft, 2009). In addition to providing guidelines, the mission also provides the hospital with goals and objectives that it needs to achieve within a set timeframe. Life is not without limits and therefore the hospital has its own limits and boundaries on its operation and activities. The hospital’s mission therefore defines the scope within which the hospital should operate and the hospital staff knows what is expected of them.
Services provided
Finally, from the mission statement, the hospital has a role to play in the society and therefore the statement reminds the hospital management that the hospital has a duty to the society. The main duty of the hospital according to the mission is to ensure a healthy future generation by providing quality healthcare.
The children’s hospital of Los Angeles provides variety of services that are in line with the hospitals mission. The hospital therefore offer both inpatient and outpatient healthcare services whereby it provides specialized treatment and treatment of minor problems. In addition to this, the hospital offer surgical services to all children with cases that require surgery. The hospital mainly deals with the treatment of the common children diseases although sometimes the hospital handles complicated cases like bone marrow transplant. The hospital offers education services to both the children and their parents and is fully aware that a healthier future generation is a well-informed generation and therefore there is need to offer education on health matters to both the parents and the children (Daft, 2009).
