Introduction

Once any drug enters the human body, it starts various sophisticated interaction processes that are hard to terminate. The most complex and crucial effect drugs have on the human brain as they affect all the brain parts and, consequently, change the patterns of overall body processes (Levinthal, 2014). Besides physical modifications, drugs influence humans’ psychological patterns of behavior. Such an outcome is one of the major reasons why people tend to use illegal substances in the first place. However, the impression people usually get from the process is their own expectations of the drug being combined with the general effect of the consumption. Hence, it should be analyzed whether people are eager to consume drugs, or they want to experience the placebo effect, present in a series of other processes.

Main body

In order to answer this question, it is necessary to dwell upon the psychological factors that can potentially lead to drug dependence. The most widespread reason, in my opinion, is social pressure from peers and social media platforms as in rare cases people independently come to a decision to try drugs. Being affected by other people’s impressions, people want to experience it on their own. However, the major issue behind such an aspect of pressure is the fact that human interaction with drugs is a highly individual matter. For example, some people are resistant enough to consume drugs without immediate dependence, while others become addicted after a single use. The same issue applies to the experience of using drugs as the human emotional perception of the same action varies greatly. That is why people who expect the drug to make them feel at ease may become even more stressed because of their emotional state at the moment of drug consumption.

Conclusion

To sum everything up, it is now evident that people mostly do not have the firm intention of consuming drugs. It is the external factors that make people try illegal substances, while each user craves for the satisfaction of individual needs and, as a consequence, often does not achieve the desired result. In reality, however, such a placebo effect can be achieved through legal and safe actions peculiar to each human being.
