First of all, one can speak about the owners and stockholders of Multitype Corporation. These people attach importance to the financial performance of this organization and its sustainability. Secondly, the management should remember about the needs of customers. They want to buy high-quality products at a moderate price. However, they also expect Multitype Corporation to meet the standards of corporate social responsibility. Secondly, one should speak about the Carib Indians who urgently need medical assistance.
Furthermore, the managers should not overlook the interest of workers whose survival depends on employment in the company. Finally, one should speak about the government of the Swan Islands. This government is represented by John Bailey, who is the president of this state. This person does not want to place an extra economic burden on the population of the Swan Islands. Nevertheless, it is possible to assume that this individual is also driven by the irrational prejudice against the Carib Indians. These are the main interest groups that can be distinguished.
The top managers of Multitype Corporation are primarily concerned about the profitability of their organization. Some of them do not want to interfere with the activities of the local government. In their opinion, the company should focus on its financial performance, rather than the problems of a foreign society. In my view, this approach is not ethically appropriate because it is not permissible for business administrators to disregard the activities of a government that dehumanizes the citizens of the country. This is the main argument that can be put forward.
There are several ethical issues that the management of the country should address. On the one hand, this organization must not be indifferent of the problems encountered by the Carib Indians. Nevertheless, at the same time, they need to meet their financial responsibilities towards stakeholders. Therefore, the senior managers have to resolve a conflict of interest that should be resolved.
In my opinion, the organization of a coup d’etat is not an acceptable option for the management of Multitype Corporation. First of all, it is not permissible for a business to use force to change the political system of a country, because this right belongs only to the people living in this state. Furthermore, such an action can significantly complicate the relations of this country with the governments of other countries. This is why this strategy should not be adopted.
To address this problem, management can take several steps. First of all, they can tell the public about the efforts that have been taken by this organization to help the Carib Indians. For instance, they can tell that Multitype Corporation has developed and funded a medical program that can assist people suffering from malaria. Moreover, they can inform the government of the United States about this problem. Nevertheless, the company can act differently. For example, they can set an ultimatum to John Bailey and the government of the Swan Islands. In particular, they need to state if the government does not stop the discrimination of the Carib Indians; the management of Multitype Corporation will stop its operations in the country. Admittedly, this choice can lead to additional expenses. However, it will also lead to unemployment in this small state and political unrest. It is rather unlikely that John Bailey will accept this risk.
