There is no use denying the fact that negotiation between people is rather complicated issue which has a great number of different important aspects. First of all, it is rather difficult to make a compromise because all people are different and they have various visions of the problem and points of view on some possible solutions. That is why, very often different kinds of negotiations can be useless and result will not be achieved.
With this in mind, it is possible to say that a great number of various works are devoted to peculiarities of this process as people are interested in the issue and try to find the best way to make negotiations successful.
However, sometimes people just want to show all sides of debates between different groups for society to see how ridiculous sometimes negotiations can be and how some personal problems can lead to the failure of the whole process. The movie Carnage is devoted to this very issue and tries to show different aspects of negotiations for people to understand them better.
The movie centers around the conflict between two families. Two boys, Zachary Cowan and Ethan Longstreen have a fight and one hits other in a face with a stick. Being rather serious, this conflict needs some solution and, that is why, parents of these boys decide to discuss their problems in order to understand the reason of this aggression of their boys and find a good solution to their problem.
This setting makes a reader understand that negotiations between these couples will be the main theme of the movie. The films outlines different styles of behavior and characters which try to show their point of view on the problem and make a compromise. With this in mind, the movie can be taken as the model of negotiations between different parties to conflict.
The company consists of four people and everyone has his/her own manner of behavior. Alan Cowan seems to be detached and not interested in the issue. Moreover, he irritates everyone with his manner to communicate over his mobile phone. It is possible to say that Alan is a person who does not respect other opinions being sure in his rectitude. However, such style is rather annoying and even his wife Nancy is irritated by it. At the first glance, this couple can be taken as snobbish and arrogant.
Nancy tries to find reasonable explanation for all actions and events and be distant and calm. However, she is not always able to control herself as she is rather stressed woman. The second couple is different. Penelope and Michael are not so arrogant, though they have some problems to. Penelope is concerned about human rights and tries to find justice.
It is her idea to invite another couple. Additionally, she is trying to be the leader and manage negotiations. However, her husband does not understand her and, moreover, does not help her. He is more indifferent and thinks that children are not so complicated. Additionally, they do not have so many rights in his house.
Trying to make a compromise, these couples, however, just make the situation worse. The thing is that partners hope for support from their husbands or wives. However, this support is not received because there is a great number of contradictions within the family. That is why, in the course of a dialogue all hidden conflicts become obvious and people start to outline their pretensions to partners.
Nancy is not satisfied with Alans attitude towards the situation and a child while Penelope also blames her husband, saying that he does not support her and, moreover, is too arrogant to think about the feelings of their children. At the same time, men also have their pretensions.
With this in mind, it is possible to say that the negotiations between families, which main aim is to find solution to the problem of violence between two boys, suddenly helps to reveal some other conflicts within the families as all partners do not have consensus.
Watching the film, it is difficult to decide who seems to be the most adequate and whose manner of communication can be taken as the most efficient and interesting. All characters have attractive and repellent traits at the same time. It is quite logic as they show some inner problems and, that is why, very often their actions are not understandable and clear. However, it is still possible to say that I consider Alans manner of behavior and negotiation style to be the most attractive.
He is rather haughty, however, it is possible to say that he is also calm and equable. He does not lose his head and tries to support every his statement with a clear evidence. That is why, Alans manner of communication seems to be the most efficient in different negotiations and I am sure that it can be used by any person.
In conclusion, it is possible to say that the movie Carnage can be taken as the model of negotiations in which everyone has its own point of view and is not ready to make a compromise.
