Introduction
There were some years when the cold days of late November proved to be extremely hot, albeit in a metaphorical sense of the word. One of these is November 25th, which, in three different years, was the date of significant but very different events. It is corroborated by history books, newspapers from all over the world, and various sports outlets. This is because November 25th was the day of confederates plotting to burn down New York, John F. Kennedy’s funeral, and the No Más Fight.
November 25 in the World’s History
On November 25, 1864, operatives of the Confederacy plotted an attempt to burn New York City down as requital for the damage caused by Union troops in the Southern states. Mystic Stamp Company notes that, during the Civil War, the city, though not a battlefield, was a hotbed of activity, which is why the Southerners chose it as a target. Although they created a little chaos luckily, New York was not significantly damaged. In addition to that, November 25, 1963, was the day of the state funeral of John F. Kennedy. According to Hourly History, millions of people from all over the world watched the funeral live, at which more than 200 foreign dignitaries were present (38). Finally, on November 25, 1980, a boxing match between Sugar Ray Leonard II and Roberto Durán took place. Leonard regained the WBC welterweight boxing crown when Duran quit, reportedly saying ‘No más’ – ‘no more’ in Spanish (Tennant et al., 13). This phrase later gave name to the fight, now known as the No Más Fight.
Conclusion
In conclusion, November 25 was an eventful day in the world’s history. It was the day of an attempt to set New York on fire, the day of the world saying goodbye to JFK, and the day of the No Más Fight. All of these events can be considered significant, although, some to a higher degree than others – and a person knowing they all took place on the same day can be considered a well-versed one.
