This letter proposes to prove that physical activity is a core subject, even though some education bills deliberately marginalize it. This fact lowers the reputation of physical activity among other teachers and children who feel that this subject can be neglected for others or electives. However, like math, history, and others, physical activity has the same criteria and requirements for students, and by fulfilling them, students become healthier.
Physical activity is a core subject since:
- physical activity is not an elective but a compulsory subject that has clearly defined standards and requirements for students’ skills;
- physical activity teachers are subject to strict schedules and plans set by the board of education;
- Physical activity teachers have textbooks with illustrations and standards for assessing students in accordance with the acquired skills.
These aspects make physical activity one of the core subjects at school, including for younger students who need a surge of emotions and energy. All children in elementary school need careful attention to their health. It is impossible to ignore physical activity, considering it is marginalized.
