Major Decision
The decision that would fit this case is behavioral decision making. Planning a wedding for a Hindu and a Catholic is quite difficult to make. Looking at the cultural differences and challenges to be faced ahead, it is quite difficult to make such decisions. Making the decision follows one’s ability to tolerate the other, given that they come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Some factors to consider in such an arrangement are the strength of faith portrayed by the two individuals. This determines the strongest factor for disagreement. It can be about race or religion. However, from the case, it should not be about religion since the two individuals have agreed to marry. This kind of marriage requires great tolerance as well as monitoring. Decision making in this part requires sound judgment. This decision can be classified as collaborative since one partner tolerates the religious beliefs of the other partner.
Processes took to make the decision
Processes utilized to reach the decision involve exploring the boundaries of Hinduism as well as Catholicism. Hinduism does not have strict boundaries as compared to catholic. It is more like a lifestyle than a religion. However, catholic have some strict ways that must be followed. In this sense, before reaching a decision, one has to think broadly. The processes involved in processing include the discovery of the problem, making the decision to find solutions to the issues, working to understand the issue, research on possible options that could be utilized in problem-solving, and finally, taking the right steps in achieving one’s goals.
Roles of inductive and deductive reasoning
Deductive reasoning involves the process of working from unknown to known. In this regard, a researcher looks at an issue from a wide perspective before narrowing down on specific details. The inductive approach helps one to reach a specific conclusion a wide perspective on the issues. In addition, it helps one to focus on specific areas that can be examined thoroughly. It is quite essential for testing of hypotheses and confirmation theories. On the other hand, inductive reasoning starts from a specific point to a wider perspective. It, therefore, comes up with generalization theories. It is sometimes known as the bottom-up approach. In this case, exploring past examples of Catholic-Hindu marriages would involve inductive reasoning as it starts with the two individuals. However, the deductive approach can be utilized in exploring the positives and negatives of planning this wedding. The two reasoning methods played an important role in decision making.
How emotion and culture affect the decision
Emotion can make someone apprehensive when making decisions. It is usually encouraged that one avoids excess emotions when reasoning. Emotion can lead to wrong decisions with far-reaching effects. However, the emotion was utilized in reasoning since this relationship involved two loved ones who had warm feelings for each other. The emotion was, therefore, useful as it strengthened the need to wed despite religious differences. Moreover, cultural difference was also an important factor in decision making. Since the two partners came from different cultural backgrounds, it was essential that cultural gaps are explored to avoid future conflicts drawn from cultural differences. In addition, exploring diverse cultures which involved influence from the varying religious beliefs was essential. In essence, both emotion and culture played an important role in decision making. Additionally, considering them was important for the future survival of the relationship.
