Presentation Techniques Used by Steve Jobs for Giving Successful Presentations
Steve Jobs used various techniques to be effective in his presentations. For instance, in his talks, he usually started by setting a theme for the presentation. According to Present Like Steve Jobs (2008), he understood the importance of unveiling a headline that set the day’s theme. This forces the audience to have expectations and, thus, remain attentive throughout.
Steve Jobs always provided an outline for his presentations and verbally opened and closed each section with a transition. This makes it easier for the audience to follow the speaker’s story. The third noticeable tactic Steve Jobs used specific words such as extraordinary, amazing, and remarkable, which showed enthusiasm and passion and encouraged the listeners that what was being presented was outstanding.
Effective Presentation Techniques Seen in Action
Of the techniques mentioned above, I have seen the last technique utilized by a speaker at a youth empowerment event. The town mayor’s office organized a meeting to encourage the youth to remain good citizens. The speaker used words such as robust and extraordinary, which made us all in the audience believe in what he was saying (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). Once the listeners see that the speaker believes in what they are trying to communicate, then they follow.
What to Do During a Presentation
Critical pieces of information direct what one does when developing or giving a presentation, including the audience, the scope of the topic, and time. Understanding the type of audience ensures that a person creates a presentation that suits their needs (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). It is essential to consider the presentation’s content to guarantee that the speech is meaningful, that is, not only correct but well-organized as well (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). Lastly, knowing the time allocated will help individuals plan to deliver within the shortest time possible.
What Not to Do During a Presentation
When giving a presentation, it is essential to consider avoiding specific issues. For instance, one should not forget that their work is to offer value to the listeners and not market themselves. Additionally, individuals should avoid doing presentations without planning (Kuswoyo & Siregar, 2019). It is documented that Steve Jobs had to rehearse for his presentations. Lastly, people should avoid delivering presentations without setting objectives, which are essential to understand what to accomplish at the end.
