Article Analysis
The article under analysis is written by Ali Ibrahim and Shaikh Al-Taneiji, who belong to the United Arab Emirates University, Faculty of education. It is called Principal leadership style, school performance, and principal effectiveness in Dubai schools. The authors explain the choice of the topic by the great significance of the given problem and its impact on the further development of the sphere of education in the UAE. For this reason, the authors revolve around the idea that the presence or absence of strong leaders might impact the level of performance and student achievement (Ibrahim & Al-Taneiji, 2012). It becomes obvious that the given article will investigate the relations between these concepts and the ways to improve one of them. Additionally, the researchers will evaluate the issue of leadership to determine its main aspects.
Investigating the article, one could admit the number of sources used in the paper to support the authors claims with credible evidence. The majority of sources could be taken as relevant as they also describe leadership and its main aspects. Moreover, the literature used in the paper could be described as scholarly. The authors take the journal and newspapers articles, books, and some reports to collect the needed material and conduct their research. However, some of the sources could be taken as outdated as they were published more than 30 years ago. The usage of irrelevant information could deteriorate the image of the whole paper and corrupt the final results. Yet, the character of the investigated question might admit the usage of some old sources because of the universal character of the analyzed issue.
Nevertheless, to gather credible data for their research, researchers conduct a quantitative study. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire is used to determine the leadership style and use this information in the paper (Ibrahim & Al-Taneiji, 2012).
To get the needed information about the ranking of schools the authors use the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau Report. The data obtained with the help of these sources is investigated using statistical analysis to determine whether there is a direct correlation between the presence or absence of leaders and the schools achievements. The sample size is 800 teachers who provide information related to the issue (Ibrahim & Al-Taneiji, 2012). Additionally, the authors create a questionnaire to obtain teachers answers and to create the basis for their investigation. Resting on the character of the research, the given method could be taken as feasible as it guarantees the relevance of the obtained data and provides several possibilities for further analysis.
Having conducted the study, the authors present readers with the results of their investigation. The use of various tables to organize the data and improve the level of the understanding of the material. The whole information is divided into six tables that contain various portions of data related to the crucial concerns of the study. Nevertheless, the results prove the authors hypothesis which states that the principals leadership style might impact the level of the efficiency of the rest of teachers and contribute to better achievements.
Moreover, resting on the obtained results, Ibrahim and Al-Taneiji (2012) cogitate about their idea that the issue of leadership has an overwhelming effect on the sphere of education and determines general success. Additionally, they are sure that there is a great need for the cultivation of leadership qualities among students to improve their results.
The article also provides a discussion of the obtained results and the authors claims. Thus, Ibrahim and Al-Taneiji (2012) introduce the idea that principals in 34 governmental schools in Dubai are more transformational than transactional and that the leadership style is one of the major concerns of the modern schools. However, the ambiguousness of the results related to the correlation between the issue of leadership and school performance highlights the necessity of further investigation of the issue and serves as the ground for the discussion. The authors are sure that the given question is crucial for the modern educational sector.
To summarize, the article could be taken as a credible source that provides relevant information related to the issue. There are several drawbacks but, in general, it could be used for further investigation of the issue.
