Specific Topic Area
Cases of HIV infection among children in Saudi Arabia has been on the rise over the past five years. For a long time, Saudi Arabia has been one of the countries with the least percentage of HIV infection among its citizen. This may be attributed to the strict Islamic laws that prohibit promiscuity among its faithful. However, with the rising globalization, and liberal thoughts that come with it has had a massive effect on the citizens of this country. Although the rate of HIV infection still remains low when compared to the world’s average, the number has been on the rise over the past five years. This may be attributed to several factors, including the increasing immigration that has been witnessed over the years. Some of those affected by this virus are children. This research will focus on HIV in Saudi Arabian children.
Recent researches have shown that the number of children who are living with HIV is on the rise. Most of the infection takes place during virginal birth. This is very common among women who carry pregnancies to term without realizing that they are HIV positive. Another group gets this infection during breast feeding stage. Such a child would be infected when the mother constantly breastfeeds it without taking preventive measures. This is also attributed to lack of knowledge among the parents. Another percentage gets infected during blood transfusion. There are cases where a child would be given blood of an infected person during transfusion of blood. This is common when there is urgent need of blood. A few have also been infected during accidents where their wounds get exposed to that of infected individuals. The biggest problem with managing HIV among Saudi Arabian children has been the intimidation from the society. The society considers HIV infection as a direct punishment from God. Clerics have been vocal in denouncing individuals who are HIV positive, considering them as promiscuous individuals who are getting the right punishments for their sins committed in darkness. This has created a general fear among those who are infected with this virus. For the parents, there is always a big fear of how to deal with the situation. Some parents have let their children die of this complication other than let the public know about their status.
Outline of Method
The researcher will conduct research on this topic in order to ascertain the level of impact HIV in Saudi Arabian children has had on the affected families. The researcher will use both primary and secondary sources of data. This will help in determining the truth behind this issue. Quantitative method will be used because it is very appropriate for this research. The researcher will be keen to maintain ethics during data collection and at analysis stage.
Proposed Work
The researcher plans to take approximately two three months to complete this research. The first week will involve developing a proposal. Upon approval of the hypothesis, the researcher will start collecting secondary data. The researcher will then develop questionnaire to collect primary data. After collecting all the needed data, the researcher will start writing thesis. This may take three hours each day.
Research Courses Taken
The researcher has studies applied research methods. This will be very important in developing this research paper because the researcher will be aware of how to handle primary data collected from the field.
