Teachers can encourage and appreciate the cultural diversity of their students in various ways. As a teacher, I would do that by incorporating diversity into the curriculum. This suggests that word problems, for instance, might cover subjects related to the cultures of the pupils, and arithmetic problems might involve figuring out distance in both miles and kilometers (Romo, 2019).
Writing assignments should also cover diverse topics from the backgrounds of all students. Additionally, to better understand children from cultural minorities and tailor the training to their needs, I would take the time to learn about their backgrounds (Romo, 2019). Thus, I would encourage diversity by developing a curriculum that is more inclusive and educating myself on the backgrounds and worldviews of every student.
Nonetheless, there is a need to address the issue of diverse pupils and families experiencing neglect from the educational system. Firstly, it is necessary to establish communication with the families of these students for collaborative decision-making. In culturally acceptable settings, I would create an open and sincere dialogue about their needs, objectives, and difficulties.
For instance, because it may not be culturally appropriate for them, a family may choose not to openly discuss a crucial issue (Romo, 2019). In this case, offering an email debriefing session or in-person discussions with culturally supportive individuals would be more appropriate (Romo, 2019). This is done to ensure that the next step actually serves to support their needs.
Subsequently, I would submit my results to the school administration and collaborate with them to address these problems. This could entail having books written in minority languages available in the school library, translating school announcements, and organizing culturally varied school activities. Thus, in order to address the issues that kids from cultural minority groups encounter, I would speak with their families, bring up their worries with the administration, and try to find solutions.
