Graphic Design as the Selected Career

The selected career is that of a graphic designer. An examination of the career compelled my choice. The career is one of the most engaging and creative as compared to several professions in contemporary societies. Besides enabling me to keep in touch with the modern world’s trends and dynamics, graphic designing also amplifies my creativity. Due to the changing times and demands advanced by clients of graphic designs, I always have to be creative to match my products with their expectations.

Moreover, the scale of creativity required enables me to be a keen listener and an active consumer of knowledge. My passion for conveying information to individuals living in our society is another factor that informed my decision to select a graphic design career. It is fundamental to assert that the career is very useful in conveying messages to society creatively and appealingly.

Some of the reasons that made me choose the career include its contribution to society and amplifying my knowledge base through research and utility of my skills. Presently, advertising companies, magazines, and social media are all consumers of products developed by graphic designers. Smart managers understand that information concerning their goods and services can reach the target clients if they employ graphic designers’ services. According to Landa (2010), several graphic designers in the world enjoy the proceeds accrued by the rising demand for their services. Since several consumers love well-designed adverts that are appealing, the demand for designers who have exceptional creativity is one factor that firms consider before hiring an individual to be part of their organization. The implication of increased demand and the need for creativity makes me continue engaging in continuous research so that my skills match those demanded by employers in the market.

The Impact of Psychology in Graphic Design

Leads to Good Interpersonal Relationship and Improves Productivity

Psychology plays a very pivotal role in all aspects that concern human life. In graphic design, psychology enables people to undertake their duties with lots of skills and develop good interpersonal relationships. Psychology helps in development if good interpersonal skills are very important in content development and enhance the relationship between the designer and the clients. In the words of De Boer, van Hooft, and Bakker (2015), psychology helps one to understand and know the various ways of managing different personalities. As such, the designer will be in a good position of pulling out ideas in an innovative manner without hurting or offending the clients. For instance, when a client visits the designer’s office with a request to have a certain product, the designer utilizes the shortest time to understand the client’s personality. The designer then employs the concepts learned in psychology to handle the respective client.

With the skills acquired from psychology, a designer can improve productivity. Improved productivity emanates from the ability to relate well with clients and develop lasting relationships. By developing good relationships, a graphic designer can easily pullout information and understand the details concerning what consumers need. After ascertaining their clients’ actual needs, the designers then develop products that match consumer needs in terms of quality and quantity. In the advent of a poor relationship between clients and the designers, the outcome can be a product that does not match client expectations. Van Ness, Melinsky, Buff, and Seifert (2010) explain that for organizations to deliver products that match client requirements, they have to ensure that their employees understand psychology concepts. The explanation substantiates the relevance of psychology in professions such as graphic design. It is essential to state that when clients and designers have healthy relationships, they freely exchange information to lead to rewarding results. Clients and designers can easily request for clarification on matters that are not clear.

Improves Communication and Enhances Client Satisfaction

With skills on various psychological theories, standpoints, and concepts, graphic designers are better positioned to improve their communication with clients and their colleagues. Wilde (2016) claims that communication is fundamental to the development of products that meet client expectations. Moreover, good communication helps a designer to come up with products within the stipulated timeframe. However, without good communication, products requested by clients may not be ready at the required time or may be delivered in undesired quality. When I develop good communication among my clients and colleagues, issues relating to product design will follow a positive order. As such, my colleagues will work together towards a common goal of delivering what is best for the clients.

On the other hand, clients will appreciate the efforts put forward by myself and my colleagues in delivering their products. Consequently, a good understanding of psychological concepts enhances consumer satisfaction. Due to the good relationship and communication with clients and designers, the overall outcome will be satisfying. The transparency employed by the designer in the delivery of products requested by the clients is a good ingredient that triggers satisfaction among consumers.
