The product recall is not a new phenomenon, and it is worth highlighting that a number of different companies made the decision to recall the product after it was sold to the customers in order to protect their life and health. As a matter of fact, sometimes it is difficult to predict possible consequences of the usage of the product. In other cases, the product is very innovative, and it is the reason the experts cannot forecast some problems.
However, after multiple testing and customers’ reactions the product can be recalled by the company. The primary purpose of the paper is to discover the corporations that have initiated recall within the last two years. Moreover, it seems essential to make an accent on the process of the recall.
Although the process of the product recall is highly dependent on the local law, it should be stressed that there are fundamental aspects that every company follows in case the product is hazardous. For example, in case the manufacturer of the food for pets has sold the product that might consequently lead to the death of the animal, the company should make public announcements and ask the customers to return the product. In such situations, the customers are provided with the replacement of the product or refund. Recalls influence the stock and the reputation of the company in a negative way.
People buy food every day, and thus, should be provided with appropriate products that will not be hazardous. Although the food manufacturers must make sure the product is safe, a number of times the food was recalled. On the 31st of December 2015, the Thomas Produce Company recalled sold cucumbers as the possible risk of salmonella was discovered. On the 23d of December 2015, American Pure Whey recalled Whey Protein because milk and soy were undeclared. In the 12th of December 2015, The Sweet Leaf Tea Company recalled their tea in the glass bottle because of the presence of the glass fragments in it. On the 18th of March 2015, the company Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets announced to the public that there is the risk of salmonella in the garlic powder and asked to return the product (Recalls, market withdrawals & safety alerts, 2015, 2016).
The sphere of food is not the only one that is experiencing the product recall. The automobile industry is not the exception. In 2015, the Mercedes-Benz recalled almost 4,000 vehicles because of the safety issues (Mercedes-Benz recalls 3,800 total vehicles in two campaigns, 2015). In 2015, Tesla Motors recalled their electric cars as well. 90,000 vehicles were recalled to check the problem with the seat belts (Hull, 2015). In the same year, Ford recalled 450,000 vehicles because the company discovered potential issues with the fuel tank (Dearborn, 2015).
In conclusion, it should be pointed out that in spite of the fact that the company’s reputation might be affected because of the product recall, it is essential to announce the information that the good is hazardous and should not be used. Some companies recall the products because of inattention, the other because the product is very modern and innovative and it was impossible to forecast hazardous impact. The health and safety of the customers should be secured and receive the primary concern and priority.
