What category or type of treatment or services does your program or facility provide?
It should be known that there are various classifications of drugs and narcotics. In this case, we have stimulants which are known to stimulate and increase arousal. In fact, they also excite individuals and in the process lead to other effects. Depressants can be classified into two categories namely; sedative hypnotics and analgesics. Analgesics are used to help different people or patients relive pain. In other occasions, they are also used to block signals of pain as time goes by.
Sedative hypnotics are mostly used to induce sleep in various ways. There are also occasions where they are used for relaxation purposes. As far as Anti-Psychotics are concerned, we only have Thorazine. Inhalants are used in various ways and they are also available in different forms. Some of these inhalants might not be recognized by the user and this is based on various aspects. Marijuana can also be classified as a drug and a narcotic because it can be found in different forms.
In this case, we have Cannabis Ruderalis, Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica. As much as it is undeniable that different drugs have varying effects, their symptoms are almost similar. Common signs include neglecting of your own responsibilities and talking them when in dangerous conditions. As a matter of fact, symptoms can be seen when an individual takes risks when they are high. When an individual gets into trouble as a result of drug use, this is a sign and symptom (Volkow, 2005, p. 42).
In relation to the symptoms of addiction, drug tolerance and loosing control are common. In this case, an individual might want to stop but they end up feeling powerless. Other signs include using drugs despite the fact that they know their side effects meaning that they will abandon the things or activities that they used to enjoy. Symptoms and behaviors will continue changing as time goes by in relation to the extent by which a drug is used.
Is there a well-defined structure used for the type(s) of treatment provided?
Drug use and criminal behavior are closely tied in our society in different ways and this is because drugs and alcohol play a role in affecting their behavior. In this case, one thing leads to the other in either way. We can simply say that criminal behavior promotes the use of different drugs as time goes by. As a matter of fact, drugs have been used to promote or finance criminal behavior in different ways. Drug usage affects the brain and this can make an individual to engage in criminal activities unknowingly.
As far as these two aspects are concerned, they can be examined in relation to behavior. Illegal drugs are supposed to reach people in different areas and the act of ensuring that they are in their final destination is in itself a criminal activity (Volkow, 2005, p. 51). Different crimes and drug use have varying costs in the society. Disrespect for the law has also been witnessed as a result of drug use.
How does your facility attempt to maintain the motivation to abstain?
The criminal justice system can help in the treatment of addiction in a broad way and this is in relation to integration. In this case, the criminal justice system will help to reduce the risk of recidivism and relapse that occurs as a result of drug use or abuse. The system can help individuals to reduce the use of drugs because of effects like staying in prison and this enables them to avoid re-arrest.
As a matter of fact, most individuals who enter into treatment as a result of pressure from the justice system have a more positive outcome than others who go voluntarily (Volkow, 2005, p. 25). This system arranges for treatment of violent drug offenders which ensures that their progress is effectively monitored. As a matter of fact, other services can also be arranged in advance for effective outcomes. In this case, effective models can be designed by the criminal justice system for long term sustainability.
Combining criminal justice with drug treatment can ultimately be an effective means of decreasing drug use. This is because the personnel can work together for long term sustainability through good models and intervention frameworks. Systematic use of sanctions helps to ensure that violent offenders are also attended to and this is the only way they can be considered. Drug use and related crime will only be reduced through cooperation between the criminal justice and treatment system. The justice system can also reward offenders as time goes by through effective monitoring and supervision.
Treatment involves a lot of things and this explains why care should be taken when dealing with both violent and non-violent offenders (Volkow, 2005, p. 34). Drug addiction will continue as time goes by thereby justifying the need for the criminal justice system for success.
How does your facility address coping with urges?
The effectiveness of accepted treatment options has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. Accepted treatment options have been effective in dealing with drug offenders because they can not be considered normal patients. These treatment options revolve around individual attention and that is why every drug addict is taken care of in relation to his/her needs. Accepted treatment options ensure that there are good models and interventions strategies that will be used to return the addict to normalcy. This treatment is accepted within the medical profession and its effectiveness is something that can not be disputed (Volkow, 2005, p. 17). Violent drug offenders always need good intervention strategies for success and this is where accepted treatment options have come in for success.
