Introduction
These two presentations provide decent-quality content since they utilize relevant information about the chosen topic and use examples or supporting materials to confirm the trustworthiness of the data. For instance, the Kleinhans presentation employs information that includes references to totalitarian states to explain the nature of censorship (Kleinhans, 2007).
Discussion
Another speaker utilizes a visual aid that provides information regarding the content mentioned during the speech (Howard, 2006). These presentations demonstrate different techniques for effective oral presentations for better audience engagement. In the case of Kleinhans, these techniques involve the application of stress and intonation to convey information to the listener better. The Howard presentation features the utilization of gesticulation and maintaining constant eye contact with the listeners. In addition, the Howard example addresses the audience directly at the beginning of the presentation, allowing for better listener engagement. Therefore, these two speakers utilize quality content and demonstrate different techniques for an effective presentation.
Regarding poor presentation techniques, it is necessary to emphasize the speaker’s ability to maintain eye contact and provide gestures because these skills are essential for effective presentation (Harinck & van Leeuwen, 2020). In this regard, the Kleinhans presentation involves using supporting print material, which significantly impairs the ability to provide eye contact and use gestures. The Howard example does not have these disadvantages but has minor problems with speech frequency in the second part of the presentation. In general, I find the Howard presentation more effective as it utilizes constant eye contact and gestures to create a better convincing effect and attract the listener’s attention.
Conclusion
Regarding the essential aspects to use in my presentations, I want to emphasize an understanding of the importance of considering the different techniques of an effective presentation. In this case, it is necessary to assume that any presentation shortcomings can seriously affect the persuasiveness of the information to the listeners. Therefore, these presentations demonstrate that an effective presentation requires a combination of several techniques, including appropriate language and nonverbal communication. These examples reveal the strengths and weaknesses of oral presentations that are important to consider when delivering one’s presentations.
