Introduction

Screening for terrorist has acquired a special importance after the events of 11 September 2001, and reflecting on the consequences of the events of those sad days it seems that any measure which would help to minimize the risk will help for raising the level of security in the air. The lives of thousands of civilians are under the risk; thus, any possible measure is good enough and its price is a secondary question. Of course, it is important to understand what is behind the security measures as economy is the very important point in any issue; still, when it comes to lives of people what can be more important than life? With regards to the above-mentioned argument, screening for terrorist for aviation security seems to be an important measure which would help to significantly minimize the risk of terrorist attacks in the air.

The issues that screening for terrorist is connected with

Speaking about the measures which are rife in connection to security in the air, screening for terrorist should be discussed. Without a doubt, this measure is connected to serious expenses, but it also has a row of very important advantages which seem to justify such high costs. First of all, this measure has already shown itself as an effective way of identifying some of the most dangerous terrorists in the world including those ones form the most risky countries such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen (Terrorism and International Transport: Towards Risk – Based Security Policy 2009). Some people would disagree and mention some cases when this technique did not work, and terrorists managed to succeed in their guileful plans. Well, everything happens. If there were a measure which might have lessened all the risks to a minimum it would be definitely adopted rather than screening for terrorist; but for now such measures are not developed yet.

The advantages of screening for terrorist

In addition, according to Krouse (2004, p. 37) “there is an emerging consensus that the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement community missed several vital opportunities to watch-list and screen several conspirators involved in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks”. With regards to this information, the necessity to develop strategies that would help in working on this blind pass was out of any debate. As a result of the above mentioned problem, the government developed screening for terrorist methods collaborating with FBI and the other security services and agencies both in the country and in the world (Terrorism and International Transport: Towards Risk – Based Security Policy 2009). More than ten years passed since the adoption of policies related to the above mentioned problem which found its implementation in screening for terrorist strategies. At the present moment of time this strategy proved its effectiveness in covering the problematic areas of the air security mentioned by Krouse (2004). For example, according to Terrorism and International Transport: Towards Risk – Based Security Policy (2009), screening for terrorist helped in preventing more than a few hundreds of terroristic operations in the United States since its development.

Conclusion

Concluding on all the information related above, it should be mentioned that screening for terrorist can be seen as an expansive measure connected to serious economic issues along with racial issues and the issues of international relationships. Still, this strategy has proved itself to be successful and has recommended itself as having a row of advantages if compared to the other strategies and systems. In this vein, the most important point is in covering the blind pass in watch-listing and screening the most dangerous terrorists in the world, and, thus, preventing many terroristic attacks.
