Introduction
Seafood is a form of sea life regarded as food by human beings. A good example is a lobster which is found in the sea. To better understand seafood, it is paramount to check out the Marine Steward Council. The website contains information about how the organization assists in sustainable fishing by setting standards and outlining how fishing will be done and preserved. Further, the purpose of the website is to give information that seeks to reward the efforts of people who protect and safeguard the ocean and seafood supplies such as lobsters. With the information on the importance of sustainable seafood fishing, my perspective on seafood has changed as I can now advocate for safe and proper fishing.
Seafood and Sustainability
The lobster is a large marine crustacean that piqued my interest. The common name of a lobster is American lobster, while its scientific name is Homarus Americanus (Seafoodwatch.org. 2022). Primarily, lobsters are harvested on the Northeastern coast of North America, with the Atlantic Provinces of Canada and the U.S. state of Maine being the largest producers. In Florida, lobsters are sold in a restaurant called Oceanaire Seafood room, owned by Landry’s restaurants. Approximately the lobster costs 1.5 pounds when served with drawn butter and lemon. In addition, lobsters can be harvested locally. In Florida, it is possible to harvest lobsters in the Southeast due to shallow waters.
Conclusion
In conclusion, sea foods are very nutritious and profitable, hence the need to sensitize the public on sustainability. The Marine Steward Council has continuously educated the public on conserving seafood for future use. A lobster is an example of seafood that can be found in Florida. Oceanaire Seafood room in Florida sells lobsters for approximately 1.5 pounds. It is of great importance as the consumption of lobsters is done, conservation of the lobsters be advocated and echoed.
