The problem at Smiley hospital is evaluating employees on overall performance rather than individual merits hence reducing the motivation to work. The best way to solve this problem is through the use of effective teams. Effective teams are essential in creating bonds among employees hence close follow-up on each other’s progress. Ultimately, effective teams increase the motivation to work as each member gets to appreciate their teammate. When performance gets evaluated, team achievements can help provide better evaluation while team members can evaluate themselves. During the implementation of effective teamwork, the work done should be considered so that those with similar tasks get to be in the same team, increasing productivity.
The transformational leadership style would be more helpful in solving the problems at the hospital. This kind of leadership is dedicated to developing the employees and improving their skills and motivation levels (Al Khajeh, 2018). The leader’s role in managing conflict is to listen to employees’ conflicts and find easier ways to change the situation. In this case, the leader gets to ensure teams are formed to work together and create better bonds at the workplace (Al Khajeh, 2018). Additionally, members get to review their performances and evaluate each other on their capabilities and work done through the teams.
As a leader at the hospital, I would ensure employees form groups according to the tasks done. While in their teams, employees would be required to learn about personalities and conflict resolutions to mitigate the risk of conflict while working. The teammates would be expected to review each other’s progress, while my work would be to evaluate overall performance. Through this step, employees would get to be motivated by each other into providing their best self while at work since they feel noticed and appreciated.
