Network Analysis
When evaluating the diversity of my social network (Facebook), I can note that among a large number of friends, there is much in common; however, significant differences are also present. In particular, regarding the criterion of a social class, the overwhelming majority is similar. Also, the age setting is relatively stable since young people make up the largest percentage of registered users. Nevertheless, the network is diverse in terms of such parameters as race, job functions, religion, education, and interests. In more detail, the relationship of all variables can be seen in Figure 1.
In the correlation in question, the ties are strong enough since certain parameters entail others. For instance, the indicator of age, as a rule, closely intersects with interests and education. When spending time on Facebook, I derive quite many interpersonal resources, in particular, valuable information and opinions about certain cases, facts, or judgments. In this context, it is appropriate to use the concept of “the wisdom of crowds” suggesting that larger groups can offer a more rapid and creative solution to a particular issue (Bucher 181).
Also, the author remarks that it is possible to capitalize on the potential of a social network (Bucher 182). It is possible to enhance the diversity of the network under consideration through the frank exchange of views and open dialogues with interlocutors. This approach will help to expand communication boundaries, thereby increasing interest in certain topics and interpersonal discussions.
