Portfolio Statement
The Master degree program in Spanish Education was a successful experience and benefitted me not only as a student, but more importantly as an educator of Spanish in the teaching domain. My portfolio reflects my philosophy in teaching and in life “It is not what we get, but who we become, what we contribute… that gives meaning to our lives”. The purpose of this portfolio is to demonstrate a collection of artifacts that reflect my accomplishments, skills, experiences, and attributes. It showcases samples of some of my best work, along with my achievements.
This portfolio is an illustration of my growth as not only a student, but more importantly as an educator of the Spanish language. It underlines my philosophy of education in unison with my vision and beliefs. The information incorporated here reflects on my abilities. My journey of becoming a teacher through the program has been pronounced with several accomplished practices in all areas of teaching, including evaluation, precise methods of communication and continuous improvement, not only of the student, but also the self, though self discipline, self learning and research.
The program has honed my critical thinking skills and polished my perspective on cultural diversity, which is so essential for a language teacher. Ethics, human development and learning go hand in hand, and the program has strengthened my competencies in all of these areas as they relate to education and teaching. The portfolio contains several artefacts which show my mastery of the accomplished practices, demonstrating the knowledge of my teaching competencies.
The program made me proficient in several areas of education which are necessary for being an able and influential teacher. While I gained tremendously from the completion of the master’s degree program, there are several areas in which I benefitted tremendously. Some of these include planning courses independently and designing lesson plans according to the level and preparedness of students. The portfolio showcases my proficiency as a teacher in the educational environment and how I am able to employ the best teaching practices using technology in the classroom. The portfolio reflects the accomplishments providing a glimpse of detailed and comprehensive nature of the course, which will be the crux of all my teaching.
The portfolio reflects my successful completion of the Master degree in Spanish education program and highlights my advanced Spanish language teaching skills using appropriate teaching methodologies, my linguistic abilities and comprehensive knowledge of literature. The program has equipped me with the skills and qualification to teach at all K-12 levels starting from the elementary level to the advanced placement Spanish courses. The portfolio demonstrates my ability to employ appropriate strategies for teaching Spanish as a second language as well as a heritage language. Also reflecting my ability as a language educator to employ research based practices for continuous improvement among students, my portfolio depicts the level of cultural sensitivity needed for teaching Spanish as a foreign language to students.
Finally, the portfolio provides a complete demonstration of my teaching approach, accomplishments, skills and experiences by showcasing some of my finest works. The information here reflects on my abilities to be an excellent teacher and will serve as a useful tool to gauge my level and competency in teaching.
